Position Description

The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary, in partnership with the O’Brien Institute for Public Health, is inviting applications for a tenure-track position, at the Assistant Professor level, in the field of biostatistics.

Qualifications include a recent advanced research degree, PhD or equivalent in Biostatistics/Statistics, with application to Health Services and/or Epidemiological Research, and at least 1-3 years of teaching/research experience beyond the PhD degree. A proven record of excellence, as demonstrated by scholarly publications and the ability to compete successfully for external funding, is required. The successful candidate is expected to have teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level and research expertise in areas of Biostatistics, as well as the ability to actively collaborate with and provide statistical expertise to medical and health researchers at the University of Calgary.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to develop a vigorous and independent externally-funded research program in Biostatistics within a dynamic, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment. The position provides the following time allocations: 50% for research, 40% for teaching in the undergraduate/graduate training programs in the Department of Community Health Sciences, and 10% for administration/service related tasks. The successful candidate will also be expected to apply for and successfully obtain extramural support from national/provincial agencies for operating funds to sustain a research program, including supervision of graduate students and highly qualified personnel (e.g., postdoctoral fellows).

The successful candidate will join the Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine, in close proximity to other investigators with similar interests.
