Call for applications – TDR 2022 training grant at the School of Public Health

CONTEXT
The School of Public Health of the University of the Witwatersrand invites candidates duly qualified to  apply for a program of master funded full-time in the field of implementation science. The grant is provided by TDR, the Program UNICEF research Special / UNDP / Bank World / WHO  and Training in Tropical Diseases – hosted the World Health Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.
The objective of the program is to improve the training capacity of graduates in implementing research and to stimulate  the number of researchers in low- and middle-income countries. The focus is on implementing  research on infectious diseases of poverty, including neglected tropical diseases, malaria, tuberculosis, HIV / TB co-infection and COVID-19. The training focuses on courses relevant to a career
in implementation science. Implementation science is a growing field that supports the identification of health system bottlenecks and approaches to address them, and is particularly useful in middle-income countries where many health interventions do not reach those who need it most. Further information on implementation research is available at: https://tdr.who.int/home/our-
DIPLME PROGRAM OFFERED
• MSc in epidemiology in the field of implementation science (18 months full time).
ELIGIBILITY
The candidates must:
• Be a resident and national of a low- and middle-income country  1  in the WHO African Region  2 .
• Be under 35 years of age.
• Be interested in developing a career in implementing research on infectious diseases of poverty.
Mastering English.

SCHOLARSHIP PACKAGE

• Roundtrip economy class airfare between the candidate’s home country and Johannesburg, South Africa
• Tuition fees
• Basic medical and accident insurance
• Monthly allowance to cover living expenses, including accommodation
• Support for research project expenses
Additionally, grantees’ careers will be tracked with TDR Global’s new alumni and stakeholder platform which will monitor the impact of the program and provide networking and increased visibility opportunities for fellows.
HOW TO REGISTER
The application process is two-part and each MUST be completed separately

Apply by completing a postgraduate application form at the University of the Witwatersrand online at:
http://www.wits.ac.za/postgraduate/applications/  The costs application are R200 for both international and local applications. The deadline for applications is July 31, 2021.
The candidates should also note:
The deadline for housing applications is October 30, 2021.
ii) Apply to the South African Qualifying Authority (SAQA) at:
http://www.saqa.org.za/index.php  if with foreign certificates, to have certificates evaluated. The SAQA certificate or proof of claim MUST be uploaded as part of the required application documents.

TDR scholarship application
The TDR scholarship application must be made separately in writing and must include
The following documents:
a. A cover letter to apply for the scholarship.
b. A certified copy of the biographical data page of the applicant’s passport.
vs. Proof of application to study implementation science as a field of study in the MSc Program in Epidemiology at the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand from January 2022.
re. A complete curriculum vitae, including a description of relevant research and work live.
e. Two confidential referee reports must be sent directly by the referees to:
TDRenquiries.publichealth@wits.ac.za  by July 31, 2021  . The label on referee reports MUST include the student’s name and claim number.

The candidates to whom a scholarship is offered will have 7 calendar days to confirm acceptance TDR
Graduate scholarship after notification of the offer. Any candidate who does not confirm their acceptance
within the period indicated will be considered as having refused the scholarship and the offer will be awarded to another deserving candidate .
Upon completion of the selection process, fellows will begin their studies in  January 2022  .
Depending on the current COVID-19 context, the course can be delivered in a hybrid format (a combination of face-to-face and online education) or entirely online
