The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) is an outstanding infrastructure initiative for the science communities in Germany with the aim to harness the great potential of research data as a valuable resource for science and research. As of 1st October 2020, the first round of NFDI consortia will receive funding for a period of five years, with the option of a five-year extension. TIB will play a key role in shaping the NFDI from the very beginning. The following position will be placed within this network.
The Technische Informationsbibliothek (TIB) – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology – Program Area C, Research and Development, is looking to employ a
Senior Systems Architect for Terminology and Ontology Systems (m/f/d)
to start in the IT Development department at the earliest possible date.
The position is initially limited to 5 years with envisioned transformation into a permanent position. The regular weekly working time is 39.8 hours (full-time). The position is only suitable for part-time work to a limited extent. The remuneration of the position is based on pay scale group 14 TV-L.
Your challenge
Your work will be instrumental for the development of a National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI). TIB – Leibniz Information Centre for Science and Technology is involved in three consortia: the Chemistry Consortium (NFDI4Chem), the Consortium for Research Data on Material and Immaterial Cultural Heritage (NFDI4Culture) and the National Research Data Infrastructure for Engineering Sciences (NFDI4Ing). The aim of creating a National Research Data Infrastructure is to ensure that scientific and research data, which until now has been distributed in a decentralised way, is made findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable for the German science system in the future. This way research data will become a wealth of information available for use by academics from all disciplines, creating added value for society.
Your tasks will focus on
- Design and lead development of a terminology platform for processing, management and access to terminologies and ontologies for engineering workflows in NFDI
- Technical evaluation of the components for the terminology platform
- Coordination and development of standardized interfaces for the exchange and retrieval of terminologies and ontologies together with participants in other projects
- Technical and professional support for projects using the platform and support with integrating terminologies and ontologies into their applications
- Optimization of platform operation and maintenance through automation with CI/CD
- Continuous improvement of the platform according to the current state of the art
Your qualities
Your competence area should be squarely rooted in Data Science, ontology and software engineering or related fields. You should be able to think creatively, grasp new knowledge quickly, be able to design and develop innovative software systems and be interested in mastering complex challenges.
- Successfully completed university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a relevant field of study such as Computer Science, Information Science, Mathematics or comparable
- At least 5 years of relevant work experience, including the coordination of high-profile projects
- Excellent proficiency in Semantic Web Technologies, Ontology development and Data Management
- Excellent knowledge of one or more modern programming languages (especially Java, Python and JavaScript/Web technologies) as well as proven experience in software development and modern methods of software development (especially Git, Scrum, DevOps, CI)
- Excellent project management skills
Desirable
- Familiarity with Natural Language Processing, Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics or Digital Libraries is an asset
- Knowledge of Research Data Management Tools and Services (e. g. Neo4j Graph Database)
