Research Associate 1 (Physiology and Biophysics)

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/myncbi/nirupa.chaudhari.1/bibliography/public/ The Research Associate will be responsible for fluorescent immunohistochemistry, confocal and wide-field microscopy, as well as general lab management and management of genetics and breeding of several transgenic mouse strains.

The duties and responsibilities for this position will include:

  • manage colonies of transgenic mouse strains (includes designing efficient breeding schedules, genotyping, maintaining pedigree records, develop genotyping assays for new strains).
  • carry out immunohistochemistry projects (includes wide-field and confocal microscopy, documenting results, keeping comprehensive electronic and paper records). Experimental design and interpretation will be in consultation with Supervisor.
  • report progress to Supervisor frequently and at key decision points; present findings to lab group at weekly lab meetings.
  • lab maintenance (includes managing inventory, ordering supplies, keeping records, etc.)
  • provide technical support to other investigators in the lab when requested (e.g. animal handling, RT-PCR, phenotyping etc.)
  • train student workers/ new researchers and help with supervising them.

Minimum Qualifications

B.S. or B.A. in Biological Sciences, preferably with courses in cell/molecular biology, neuroscience, or genetics. Strongly prefer experience in a research laboratory setting (either full-time or during school). Prefer laboratory experience in RT PCR, immunohistochemistry, microscopy. Experience in the following would be most useful: general molecular biology methods, immunohistochemistry, fluorescence microscopy. Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail. Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values.
