QUALIFICATIONS:
PhD in biological sciences or bioengineering is required. Record of success publishing in scientific journals and presenting at national/international meetings is required. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work with others in a collegial team atmosphere. Experience mentoring undergraduates in laboratory skills preferred. Experience preparing research grants preferred. Experience in molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid and protein extraction, PCR, Western blotting, microscopy) and primary cell culture required. Detailed knowledge of cell signaling required. Experience with single cell sequencing, proteomics and R statistical software preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Research: The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research using cellular and molecular biologic techniques in the Murphy-Russell-Leonard-Thomasy lab (https://mrtvisionsciences.com/) to study many aspects of ocular function including corneal physiology, signal transduction, innate immunology, and tissue bioengineering. Current projects investigate (1) the role of mechanotransduction on corneal endothelial cell function, (2) the modulation of corneal wound healing to limit formation of scar tissue, (3) the effect of nanoparticles on ocular health, (4) the induction of innate immune defenses of the , and (5) the key determinants in tear film stability. Collaborate with Principal Investigators in planning of project research goals and methods. Supervise students regarding the technical aspects of the research, including methods development, trouble-shooting problems, interpreting results and planning follow-up experiments. Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, books and other outlets in collaboration with the PIs or other members of the research team. Assist in preparation of research grant proposals and grant award compliance.
Professional Competence: Participate in professional societies and conferences appropriate to specific field. Serve as a reviewer of research proposals and scientific publications as appropriate. Attend seminars to present research results and give oral presentations to public and professional interest groups or other settings as appropriate.
Service: University and public service through committee work, participation in professional organizations, and other appropriate means is encouraged but not required.
