Who is eligible?
To be eligible for this scholarship, potential applicants must:
- Undertake master’s studies in the fields of zero carbon energy, smart grids, electric transport, energy storage, advanced electrical technologies, public policies, economics, law, political science or other relevant areas.
- Pursue full-time studies for at least one full academic year (two or three semesters), starting in the fall of 2020. Second-year students in a two-year program are eligible to apply, provided they meet this condition.
- Be a citizen of a developing country / territory on the list of official beneficiaries of development aid identified by the Directorate for Development Cooperation (DAC) of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
- Commit to return to their country of origin after their studies to contribute to its development
- Be an exceptional student
- Graduates with excellent marks in the top 20% of their class
- Committed to sustainable energy development
- Has a history of community involvement
- Determined to advance knowledge and understanding
Support studies in developing countries
In order to help developing countries to develop their local expertise, the GSEP will allocate part of its scholarships to students pursuing master’s studies at universities based in developing countries.
What documents are required?
You must provide an electronic copy of all of the documents listed below.
- Passport (photo page only) or birth certificate
- Curriculum vitae detailing your studies, your work experience (if applicable), your rewards and your participation in voluntary and / or extracurricular activities
- Letter of admission for your university program of choice
- Download a copy of your official university admission letter. Please note that each candidate can only submit the letter of admission for their first choice of university program .
- If you have not yet received an admission letter, you can download an acknowledgment from your university that you have applied for admission.
- If you receive your official letter of admission after the scholarship application deadline, it is your responsibility to send it by e-mail to scholar@globalelectricity.org no later than April 17, 2020. If we do not receive your official letter of admission on this date, your application will not be taken into account
- If this application concerns the second year of a two-year program, please include proof of registration, as well as a copy of the official letter of admission. These must be downloaded together in one document.
- If the language of your original admission letter is not English, we need a certified translation of the document which includes the name of the translator as well as a copy of the original letter (untranslated). These must be downloaded together in one document.
- Program overview
- Download an overview of the program or courses you will take for your master’s program
- If the language of the program plan is not English, we need a certified translation of the document which includes the name of the translator as well as a copy of the original (untranslated) program plan. These must be downloaded together in one document.
- University statement (s)
- Download a copy of your full university transcript
- If the language of your original transcript (s) is not English, we need a certified translation of the document which includes the name of the translator as well as a copy of the original transcript (not translated ). These must be downloaded together in one document.
- If this request concerns the second year of a two-year master’s program, please include your transcript for your first year
- Academic reference form
- You must provide a completed copy of the academic reference form . The form must be completed in English.
- The form must be completed by a member of the teaching staff or a professor of your current or previous university who knows your academic capacities.
- If the referee wishes to send the Academic Reference Form directly to the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership, he can send it by e-mail to scholar@globalelectricity.org before March 6, 2020. If received, it will be indicated in the online application system after submitting your application.

- Academic or personal reference letter
- You must provide a reference letter from an academic or personal referee
- The reference must be in the form of a letter (with an official header from the referee’s organization, if possible), written in English, and must be dated and signed by the referee.
- An academic referee must be a faculty member or professor from your current or previous university who knows your academic abilities. They cannot be the same person as the person filling out your academic reference form.
- A personal referee should be someone (for example, employer, supervisor, mentor, coach) who can discuss other personal qualities or interests that make you specially qualified to receive the award. This arbitrator cannot be a family member
- Please ensure that the referee includes your full name in his letter
- If the arbitrator wishes to send his letter directly to the Global Sustainable Electricity Partnership, he can send it by e-mail to scholar@globalelectricity.org before March 6, 2020. If it is received, it will be indicated in the application system in line after submitting your application.
