Instructions for preselection for the 2021-2022 competition

For this scholarship program, only candidates preselected by a Quebec university establishment will be invited by the organization to participate in the final competition.

The submission of an application file for the preselection must be supported by a professor who agrees to welcome the candidate and supervise his work.

The deadline for preselection by Laval University is June 22, 2020.

Excellence Scholarships for Foreign Students (PBEEE)

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEES) offers  scholarships to foreign students for doctoral, postdoctoral studies and for a short research or development stay.

These scholarships aim to support the internationalization of research activities in higher education institutions in Quebec in order to attract the best foreign students. The medjouel.com team informs you that this program, administered by the Quebec Fund for Research on Nature and Technology (FRQNT), is divided into three parts:

Component 1 – Doctoral research
scholarships Doctoral scholarships valued at $ 25,000 per year for a maximum duration of three years with the possibility of extension up to 12 months ($ 1,000 per month).

Component 2 – Postdoctoral internship
grants Postdoctoral grants worth $ 35,000 for one year, non-renewable.

Component 3 – Short-term research or development
bursaries Bursaries for university students or researchers worth $ 3,000 per month for a maximum period of four months.

1. Is it possible to apply if I do not have a research supervisor at Laval University?
No, to be eligible for the Excellence Scholarship Program for Foreign Students (PBEEE), you must first find a supervisor from Laval University who will agree to supervise your work. To help you in this process, you can consult  the Université Laval website .

3. Can I add a bibliography to my research project?
The bibliography is not compulsory. But, if you wish, you can add a short bibliography of half a page maximum in addition to the two pages authorized for the description of the research project. The bibliography should include three to five publications relevant to your research project.

4. If I am a recipient, when will my payments start?
By participating in the 2021-2022 competition, your funding can begin no earlier than May 2021 and no later than January 2022.

5. I would like to apply for permanent residence soon, can I still apply?
To be eligible for this program, you must not have applied for permanent residence under Canadian immigration laws by the closing date of the final selection of the FRQNT, November 1, 2020.

6. What areas of research are eligible for the Excellence Scholarships for International Students Program?
All fields are eligible, although the program is administered by the Nature and Technologies Research Fund (FRQNT).
