Facebook scholarships to encourage and support doctoral students

The Facebook Fellowship is a global program designed to encourage and support promising doctoral students who are engaged in innovative and relevant research in areas related to computer science and engineering at an accredited university.

The program is open to students of any year of their doctorate. We also encourage people of backgrounds and experiences different to apply, especially those from minority groups traditionally under-represented. Applications are assessed based on the strength of the student’s research statement, publication record, and letters of recommendation.

Scholarship winners are entitled to receive two years of tuition and fees paid, an annual stipend of $ 42,000 to cover conference living and travel expenses, a paid visit to Facebook headquarters for the annual scholarship summit and various opportunities to engage with Facebook researchers.

The Facebook scholarship includes

  • Tuition and fees paid for the academic year (up to two years / four semesters)
  • An annual stipend of $ 42,000 to cover living and travel expenses for the conference
  • Paid visit to Facebook headquarters for annual scholarship summit (pending COVID-19 restrictions)

Eligibility criteria

  • The candidates must be full-time students registered at an accredited university (in any country) at the beginning of the purse (ie d. Autumn 2021)
  • Students must be involved in ongoing research related to one or more relevant disciplines (see available scholarships below )
  • Students must remain enrolled full-time for the duration of the scholarship to benefit from the benefits of the program
  • Students should not apply for the Facebook scholarships if they are actively funded by Facebook through another sponsorship or collaboration and / or if they are actively supervised (or co-supervised) by a Facebook researcher. If in doubt, please send  an  email to  academicrelations@fb.com  .

Applications should include

  • 500- word research summary that clearly identifies the area of ​​interest, importance to the area and the applicability to Facebook of the research planned during the scholarship (reference available scholarships below )
  • Two letters of recommendation,  including one from an educational advisor. You will be asked to provide contact details for your references, and they will be provided with a corresponding form to submit their letters.
