Sessional Instructor – ENCM369 Computing Organization, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering

Position Description

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Calgary has an opening for a Sessional Instructor position in the second year engineering program.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach an undergraduate level course ENCM 369 ‘Computer Organization’.  ENCM 369 is listed in the University of Calgary Calendar for the Summer 2020 session.  The successful candidate will be expected to have earned at least a Masters in Electrical, Computer or Software Engineering and must have a demonstrated background in the subject matter related to this course.  The successful candidate must also have very good previous teaching performance or shows the potential for very good to excellent teaching ability. It is strongly desired that the candidate is registered as a Professional Engineer in a Canadian Province.

ENCM 369 course description

Organization of a simple stored-program computer: CPU, busses and memory. Instruction sets, machine code, and assembly language. Conventions for assembly language generated by compilers. Floating-point number representation. Hardware organization. Address translation and virtual memory. Input/output devices, computer interfacing, interrupt handling and multi-tasking systems.

Lecture (L01): Monday, Wednesday – 09:00 ~ 11:50am
Lab (B01): Tuesday – 13:00~ 15:50p.m.
Tutorial (T01): Thursday – 13:00 ~ 14:50p.m.
