The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is seeking an outstanding, internationally recognized and visionary scientist to lead the newly established Laboratory of Cancer Immunometabolism (LCIM), in the Center for Cancer Research (CCR). This position is part of the National Institutes of Health’s (NIH) world-class intramural research program (IRP) and equivalent to a tenured academic department chair.
The LCIM is comprised of 10 independent Senior Investigators, who conduct research at the cellular, molecular, biochemical, and genetic level to unravel and exploit the metabolic interplay between host immune cells and developing or advancing cancers. Investigators in LCIM explore the metabolic pathways regulating immune cell function and cancer progression, including their biochemical and cellular crosstalk in the context of unique anatomical, metabolic or immunological niches with the goal of ultimately determining disease risk and prognosis, as well as contributing to therapeutic drug development. Further information about the LCIM may be found at: https://ccr.cancer.gov/Laboratory-of-Cancer-Immunometabolism
The successful candidate will be appointed as a tenured NIH Senior Investigator and Laboratory Chief of the LCIM, and will lead her/his own individual world-class research program, supported by stable resources, including access to a wide range of NCI technology platforms and interdisciplinary collaborations within NCI as well as at NIH and its Clinical Center. In addition, the chief will provide scientific and administrative leadership to the LCIM by defining the overall scientific direction and identifying new research opportunities, including through recruitment of junior and senior faculty and management of lab/branch resources. The chief will also oversee mentoring and training activities and is responsible for ensuring an inclusive, diverse, collaborative and healthy work environment.
The Center for Cancer Research (CCR) is home to nearly 250 basic and clinical research groups located on two campuses just outside of Washington, D.C. CCR is part of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and makes up the largest component of the research effort at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Centrally supported by long-term funding and a culture of complete intellectual freedom, CCR scientists are able to pursue the most important and challenging problems in cancer research. Our work ranges from basic to translational and clinical, and our clinical trials are conducted in the NIH Clinical Center, the world’s largest hospital dedicated to clinical research. The success of CCR is grounded in an exceptionally strong discovery research program that provides the foundation for the seamless translation of insights from bench to bedside.
