Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Systems Biology/Bioinformatics at the University of Luxembourg

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) was created within the Health Technologies Initiative from the Government of Luxembourg as one of the research priorities of the University of Luxembourg. The LCSB is an Interdisciplinary Centre of the University independent of the faculties. It combines experimental and computational approaches to analyze complex biological systems and disease processes from a systems biology perspective. The Computational Biology Group (CBG) provides the LCSB with a solid infrastructure in developing theoretical framework for computational modeling on biomedical problems, especially in the area of network biology. The CBG group includes researchers with theoretical, computational and wet lab backgrounds, thereby providing a unique interdisciplinary environment.

Postdoctoral Fellow in Computational Biology/Bioinformatics at the University of Luxembourg

Your Role

The Computational Biology Group seeks a highly skilled and motivated Postdoctoral fellow to work on an exciting project that aims at developing a computational framework for modeling inter-cellular interactions to understand the mechanisms of tissue homeostasis and regeneration. In particular, the successful candidate will develop cell-cell interaction models, using network-based computational approaches and single-cell transcriptomics data. Furthermore, the candidate will build data-driven computational models for cell population dynamics and design strategies for cellular reprogramming. The topics of the research project include, but not limited to, stem cell rejuvenation, regeneration and cellular conversion for Regenerative Medicine in the context of muscle, brain, and other tissues. In addition, the successful candidate will maintain the CBG long-standing collaboration track with experimental biologists to validate predictions of the models. Finally, he/she will participate in the project management and planning, including supervision of Ph.D. students of the project.

Your Profile Essential skills and qualities:

  • D. degree in biology, computer science, engineering, physics or related discipline
  • Strong computational skills (demonstrable project in the relevant field)
  • A strong first-author publication record in the relevant field
  • Excellent working knowledge in English.

Ideal skills:

  • A record of first-author publications in the fields of Bioinformatics and/or Computational Biology
  • Prior experience in mathematical modeling of biological networks

We offer

  • Opportunity to do highly interdisciplinary research and solve complex biomedical problems within a highly dynamic research institution (LCSB) and in collaboration with internationally recognized partners
  • An international and multi-lingual environment
  • A very competitive salary and a range of social benefits
