In accordance with its statutes, the French Institute of Oriental Archeology of Cairo develops research on Egypt and its area of historical influence in the fields of archeology, philology, history and other human sciences and social, from prehistory to contemporary times. This research includes Egyptological, papyrological, Coptic and Arab-Islamic studies. Ifao develops more than 90 operations in collaboration with universities and research centers in France, Egypt and abroad, including about thirty archaeological sites that cover all periods (from prehistory to the Islamic period) and cover the entire Egyptian territory. Ifao also provides a research training mission for French and Egyptian researchers.
As part of the support given to international cooperation actions, the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation awards five doctoral contracts each year in partnership between a Doctoral School and one of the five French Schools. Foreign (EFE): French School of Athens, French School of Rome, French Institute of Oriental Archeology of Cairo, French School of the Far East, Casa de Velázquez (School of Higher Hispanic Studies). As part of this scheme, a doctoral contract is allocated each year to IFAO.
It should be noted that this allocation is in addition to the quota available to each Doctoral School: it therefore constitutes both a reinforcement of the support for young researchers and a support for French research abroad. In addition, obtaining the allowance does not necessarily imply residence in Egypt.
Applications will include:
– a thesis project of no more than five pages;
– the CV of the prospective candidate to undertake this research;
– a letter of presentation from the prospective supervisor (s);
– the opinion of the director of the Doctoral School.
Applications for Ifao must be submitted in electronic form (single pdf document) on the IFAO website under the heading Announcements / Positions & Jobs by 30 April 2019 at 15:00 (Cairo time).
All information can be requested from the management office, Ms. Hélène Wahba (phone: +20 2 27971649, email: direction@ifao.egnet.net)
The results will be announced before the end of June 2019.
