Two University Lecturers / University Teachers in Physics
University of Turku and the Department of Physics and Astronomy is seeking two teaching-focused assignments. The position will be university teacher or university lecturer, depending on the experience, education and other merits of the selected person. The positions are permanent and will start 1 August 2020.
Tasks of the new positions include teaching physics as minor studies, especially for engineering students, supervision of undergraduate and graduate students and independent research on one of department’s strategic focus areas (materials research, quantum physics and, astronomy and astrophysics). In addition, willingness to participate in other tasks is expected.
The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure. An appropriate doctoral degree, and the ability to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses are required of persons selected for the post of University lecturer. When assessing the merits of the applicants for the post of University lecturer, scholarly work, practical expertise in the field in question, if needed, teaching experience and teacher training, ability to produce study materials, other teaching merits and a teaching demonstration will be taken into account.
The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure. A person selected for the post of University teacher is required to have an applicable higher university degree and good teaching skills. When assessing the merits of the applicants, extensive competence in the field in question, teacher training, the ability to produce study materials and the ability to provide multifaceted teaching as well as teaching demonstration will be taken into account.
The main language of the teaching assignments is Finnish, so the candidates must have at least a good written and oral knowledge of Finnish language. The applicant’s current career is taken into account when assessing the applicant’s merits.
The salary for the tasks is based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary is at levels 4–7 on the job demands chart, where the task specific salary component is 2535,20–3946,50 euro per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is a 6%–50% of the task-specific base salary.
The positions is subject to a six-month trial period.
