The CMPA is Canada’s largest physician organization, employing 425 dedicated staff and serving over 100,000 member physicians across the country. The CMPA is a not-for-profit mutual defence association that provides members with advice, assistance, and support, as well as timely and appropriate compensation to patients proven to be harmed by negligent medical care. CMPA works closely with stakeholders to create environments that foster safe, high-quality care, reduce patient harm, and contain medical liability protection costs.

The Learning group leverages data and engages stakeholders in order to design and deliver learning to enhance the safety, reliability, and quality of healthcare in Canada. The group collaborates with research and analytics and member experiences to construct a dynamic approach towards member needs assessment, learning product evolution, evaluation and continuous improvement.  Interactions with stakeholders contribute to reach and impact of programs that will ultimately strengthen healthcare systems. The learning group utilizes state of the art pedagogical science to share knowledge and improve practice of members and their teams. The group also leads a collaborative approach to implementing the Organizational Learning Program Plan, which strives to provide a robust learning environment that will support staff and leaders in their ongoing learning and skills development.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Executive Director, Learning is a member of the executive leadership team, and provides leadership, management, and strategic direction to the CMPA in accordance with the CMPA’s Mission and strategic goals. The position is accountable for the efficient and effective oversight and provision of strategies and activities within Safe Medical Care Learning, Knowledge Mobilization, and Organizational Learning & Collaboration departments/teams. The Executive Director works with leaders of these specialty areas and collaborates with other departments including Safe Medical Care Research, Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy, and the Member Experience group to develop an integrated approach to service delivery.

As the ideal candidate, you are a strategic leader, with expertise in adult learning and knowledge translation. You have a well-established national network of health sector leaders and are a credible leader in the provision of medical education. You bring a forward-looking, long-term view to all strategic challenges you face and can quickly assess risks and opportunities. Experience working with national, member-based medical organizations would be considered an asset, as would your ability to communicate in both official languages and a medical degree.
