PhD student (m/f/d) Hormonal programming of hepatic chromatin landscapes

At the Chair of Metabolic Programming (Prof. Dr. Henriette Uhlenhaut), we are looking for a curious and motivated graduate student (m/f/d/) to obtain their PhD degree in functional genomics. This research project is integrated into collaborative research consortiums funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), characterizing nutritional and hormonal mechanisms of chromatin interactions by the glucocorticoid receptor in metabolic tissues.

About us
The research activities of Prof. Dr. Henriette Uhlenhaut (Metabolic Programming, TUM School of Life Sciences Weihenstephan and Helmholtz Diabetes Center Neuherberg) are focused on transcriptional regulation and endocrinology. Our lab combines functional genomics, proteomics, metabolomics and bioinformatics approaches with a variety of genetic in vivo and in vitro models to study gene regulatory mechanisms in health and disease.
Major areas of study include nuclear hormone receptors, innate immune responses, circadian clocks and metabolic homeostasis. Hot topics are the impact of stress hormones on diet induced pathologies, sex differences, inflammation and aging.

Candidate profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious candidate with an excellent Master’s degree in Molecular Genetics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Biology, or related life sciences.
Applicants should demonstrate the following qualifications.
• General interest in physiology, endocrinology, metabolism or immunology
• Basic knowledge in functional genetics, molecular biology and physiology
• Willingness to work with mice
• Eager to apply bioinformatics and statistical tools
• Enthusiastic and highly motivated team player with a strong sense of responsibility
• Excellent communication skills to enable working independently in an interdisciplinary environment
• Flexible, scientifically adventurous, curiosity-driven minded with the talent to drive the project with original ideas
• High proficiency in spoken and written English

The position is available immediately. Salary will be determined according to the German collective wage agreement in public service (TV-L 13, 65%) 3 years.
