HJF is seeking a Nutrition & Dietary Supplement Education Specialist to support the Department of Military Emergency Medicine (MEM) within the Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) located in Bethesda, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to MEM and CHAMP.
The Nutrition & Dietary Supplement Education Specialist will support the Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS) program and join a team of Nutritionists, editors, and graphic artists whose mission is to educate service members, healthcare providers, leaders, and their families on safe dietary supplement use.
Responsibilities:
- Answers dietary supplement-related questions asked by Service members, healthcare providers, military leaders, and civilians via the Ask the Expert feature on the OPSS website. (30%)
- Reviews and translates scientific literature on dietary supplements/nutrition topics and summarizes literature findings as needed. (30%)
- Under the supervision of the OPSS Director, writes content and follows trending topics surrounding dietary supplements. (20%)
- Promotes and disseminates OPSS materials online and/or in person as needed. (10%)
- Works with other staff members on research and interpretation of the scientific literature and performs other duties as assigned. (10%)
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience with evaluation and interpretation of the scientific literature. Ability to write articles, mostly at consumer level but also at health professional level. Applicant must have excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and be able to multitask on several topics/assignments. Experience with military nutrition, sports nutrition, nutrition communications, and biochemistry/chemistry strongly desired.
Minimum Education: Master’s degree in Nutrition, Nutritional Biochemistry, or related field required.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements: 0-2 years of relevant work experience required.
Work Environment: Set in an office environment.
Travel Requirements: May be asked to travel infrequently within a 60 mile radius to cover health fairs or perform duties of a teacher’s assistant at local military installations.
Background/Security: Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Tier I investigation/Public Trust and a Common Access Card (CAC).
