Job description:

She/he works in close collaboration with molecular biologists, biochemist and molecular modelers to design and synthesize new inhibitors based on screening hits to improve their efficacy and selectivity. She/he will evolve an initial hit–triage and hit expansion as well as systematic structure-activity-relationships (SAR) investigation through SAR by catalogue and single compound synthesis or by small focused libraries with the final aim to develop chemical tools.

The position offers a unique opportunity for candidates who wish to apply their scientific knowledge, sound expertise and skills to tackle chemical biological problems spanning from basic research to fundamental industrial importance using small molecule inhibitors. The FMP provides an international, innovative and interdisciplinary work environment, with access to state of the art experimental and computational infrastructure.

Requirements:

Applicants should have a PhD degree in organic chemistry, chemical biology or medicinal chemistry and should have sound experience in medicinal chemistry, synthetic organic chemistry and especially heterocyclic chemistry.

Knowledge in the application of novel synthetic methodologies and parallel synthesis techniques will be advantageous. Expertise in operating and maintaining analytical and preparative HPLC as well as IT infrastructure is desirable. The successful candidates will be highly motivated and have excellent scientific skills. She/he should have good communication skills in English and an open, proactive personality to work in a team of young researchers.
