PhD scholarship in Computational Fluid Dynamics at UCLouvain

Posted 3 years ago

A PhD scholarship in Computational Fluid Dynamics is available at the University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in Belgium. The research topic concerns the simulations of spray combustion of alternative fuels, such as biodiesel and ethanol, under realistic engine conditions.

The simulations will cover all phases of the process of interest: fuel injection, evaporation, mixing, and combustion using detailed chemical kinetics mechanisms. Emphasis will also be placed on the modelling of the breakup and evaporation of fuel droplets The numerical study will be based on Large Eddy Simulations. According to this approach, the large turbulent structures of the flow are directly resolved on the computational grid, whereas the small ones are suitably modeled. The simulations will be conducted in in parallel computers using High Performance Computing Techniques. For this purpose, the PhD researcher will use a parallel software that is already developed by our team, along with appropriate pre-processing and post-processing tools.

The PhD student will work as a member of the multi-phase and reacting flows group at the University of Louvain. Information about our group’s activities is available on our website  https://sites.google.com/site/mvpapalexandris/

The scholarship includes the researcher’s salary, full insurance and health benefits, and coverage of expenses for participation in conferences & workshops.

Interested applicants are invited to submit:

  • detailed CV,
  • transcripts of academic records (grades),
  • a statement of research interests, and
  • names of 2 references to Prof. M. Papalexandris, miltiadis.papalexandris@uclouvain.be
