There is an opening for a postdoctoral fellow in our research group. I am a Cardiologist and Clinician-Scientist and we are studying the role of various aspects of heart failure, vascular disease and lung disease with the aim to discover and translate new therapies. We have identified and characterized the apelin pathway as a major protective peptide family which is compromised in diseased states. We currently have new drugs targeting the apelin pathway as treatment for pulmonary arterial hypertension and heart failure (apelin analogs; https://pearkotherapeutics.com). We have a complete set of experimental and clinical tools and there is access, through the Cardiovascular Research Centre to core facilities for high resolution imaging, phenotyping and molecular biology.

The stipend will start at $43,000 per year. Our research group consist of 8 staff (trainees, technician and fellows) involved in translational research and 6 trainees involved in clinical research. Successful applicants will have completed their PhD within the last 3 years, and should have a publication list and academic record which is competitive for external fellowship awards. Applicants should email their curriculum vitae to Dr. Gavin Y. Oudit at gavin.oudit@ualberta.ca; our website is https://www.ualberta.ca/medicine/about/people/details.html?n=gavin-oudit.
