e are looking to appoint a Researcher in the Ethics of Global Psychiatry based within the Neuroscience, Ethics and Society (NEUROSEC) Team in the Department of Psychiatry and the Wellcome Centre for Ethics and Humanities (WEH).  Led by Professor Ilina Singh, the NEUROSEC Team has an international reputation for its work in neuroscience and psychiatric ethics and is uniquely situated within Oxford Psychiatry and Neuroscience, building collaborative research relationships with scientists and clinicians whilst maintaining a critical perspective and a portfolio of independent research projects. The post holder will be co-located in the NEUROSEC Team in the Department of Psychiatry and in WEH.

The post is for a fixed-term (funded for 24 months) and is full time.

You will progress an innovative programme of research on the ethics of genomic research and interventions for neurodevelopmental disorders, with a focus on research in low- and middle-income countries.  You will develop and lead papers, as well as develop research ideas and submissions for funding around a project investigating the ethical and social-cultural issues of involving people with intellectual disabilities (ID) in genetic research and cell line creation in Kenya and South Africa. Working independently and as part of a team you will also be expected to collaborate effectively with researchers and health professionals in the UK, USA and in Africa to adapt existing and develop new research methodologies, ethics guidelines, and other materials, as required.  You will be expected to travel to meet with key collaborators in Africa, the United States, and other regions of the world.

You will have, or be close to the completion of, a relevant PhD in bioethics, philosophy or a related social science discipline, and will demonstrate a high-level of knowledge and research in the social science or ethics of genomics research and innovation in the context of global mental health. You will have experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary research group and in working with applied ethics concepts, preferably in the context of genomics. An understanding of neurodevelopmental dimensions of intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorders and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is desirable
