The IJL (Institut Jean Lamour) and the LORIA (Laboratoire Lorrain de Recherche en Informatique et ses Applications) are known to have a world-class research environment in the field of material and computer science, respectively. Among the wide range of research activities at these labs, a substantial effort is invested into methods combining expertise in material science and machine learning.
The post-doctoral researcher will join an international team focused on development of machine learning methods for material science. Particular focus will be devoted to the development of intermetallic compounds, or related phases, as efficient noble metal free catalysts. Targeted reactions will be hydrogenation reactions. They have been selected for their applied interest, their relative simplicity enabling deep mechanistic understanding and their need for noble metal catalysts or harsh reaction conditions. The research activity will take place within the European Integrated Center for the Development of New metallic Alloys and Compounds, the International Research Network “Open space between aperiodic order and physics & chemistry of materials” and the International Lab between IJL and JSI (Josef Stefan Institute, Ljubljana, Slovenia. The work will involve electronic structure calculations and /or molecular dynamics simulations based on Density Functional Theory, as well as predictions based on machine learning approaches.
The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in Computational Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or equivalent, with a good background in statistical data analysis. Previous experience in computational chemistry for catalysis, molecular dynamics simulations, ab-initio electronic structure calculations will be considered as an extra merit. The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, a copy of PhD thesis and reports, list of publications and other relevant materials, if available.
The post-doctoral position is open for two years.
