The project provides both the volunteers as well as children and youth from Kerava an opportunity to internationalise and gain a learning experience from cultural interaction. The volunteers will take part in the various activities of the Youth Services and Kerava City Library. They will participate in the activities for 9–25-years old youth in the youth houses and mobile unit by organising e.g. multicultural education in an afternoon club and by taking part in youth evenings. Work can be carried out also in other activities which Youth Services provide e.g. school youth work. Youth Services also engourage volunteers to co-operation with other municipal actors. All activities will be carried out together with the youth workers regarding the professional skills and interests of the volunteer. During holidays (autumn, winter and summer holiday) various events involving the volunteers will be organised. Lot of work will be done in the evenings and some in the weekends.
ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS
Volunteers will be accommodated in an apartment provided by the City of Kerava. Apartment is located close to the city centre. Both volunteers will stay in the same apartment, consisting two individual bedrooms, two shared bathrooms, shared kitchen and living room and small backyard. Volunteers will be given bicycles which is useful way of getting around in Kerava. Meals are mainly provided at the Kerava High School. Volunteers are also provided travel cards for Helsinki Regional Transport to get around within the capital region.
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
Volunteers will attend both on-arrival and mid-term trainings provided by the Finnish National Agency. Finnish courses will take place in Kerava. It is also possible for volunteers to participate in gatherings and other non-formal meetings of the other volunteers working in Finland
PARTICIPANT PROFILE
We look for volunteers over 20 years old, outgoing, initiative and capable to work with children and youth. Ability to process own views of the activities, and capability to plan and carry out/implement activities for children and young people aged mainly between 13-17 years is essential. Due to the housing arrangements, it is important that volunteers are capable of living together with a person coming possibly from a different cultural background. Adequate English skills and accredited sending organisation are required. ATTENTION! We only accept candidates from EU- and EFTA -countries.
