Description:
The Department of Classics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto, St. George Campus, invites applications for a one-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in the area of Greek and Latin Language and Culture. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor and will commence on September 1, 2021 or shortly thereafter.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Classics or a related area by the date of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching in Classics. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue innovative and independent research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding and competitive research program. Candidates must present clear evidence of an excellent teaching record and have the demonstrated capacity to adeptly teach introductory and/or intermediate courses in Ancient Greek and Roman culture (in translation) and introductory and intermediate language courses in Ancient Greek and Latin language at the undergraduate level, and must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills as demonstrated in their application materials.

Candidates must provide evidence of excellence in research, as can be demonstrated by an established or emerging record of refereed publications, conference presentations, grants and awards, the submitted research statement, and by strong recommendations by referees of high standing. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be provided through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier including a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, teaching evaluations or other evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities submitted as part of the application. Other teaching-related activities can include performance as a teaching assistant or course instructor, experience leading successful workshops or seminars, student mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
