The Boehringer Ingelheim Fund (BIF) awards doctoral scholarships

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fund (BIF) awards PhD scholarships from 2 to 3.5 years to outstanding young scientists from around the world who wish to pursue an ambitious doctoral project in basic biomedical research in an internationally leading laboratory.

The peer selection process assesses the candidate’s achievements, as well as the scientific quality of the project and the host laboratory. The process is very competitive, with less than 10% of applicants receiving a scholarship.

In addition to the monthly stipend, we provide our fellows with seminars, travel allowances, individual and personal support, and a global network of fellows and alumni.

Who can apply for a doctoral scholarship

The Boehringer Ingelheim Fund (BIF) awards doctoral scholarships to European citizens working in Europe or abroad and to non-European citizens pursuing their doctoral projects in Europe  *  .

Doctoral projects must be experimental, in the field of basic biomedical research, and aim to elucidate the fundamental biological phenomena of human life and to acquire new scientific knowledge.
