Postdoctoral Researcher in Chemistry in University of Jyväskylä

The main strength areas of the department are structural and synthetic chemistry, computational chemistry and spectroscopy, renewable natural resources and chemistry of living environment, and education in chemistry. Moreover, the department is a member of the Nanoscience Center of University of Jyväskylä, which promotes interdisciplinary research projects in nanoscience. The department has world-class laboratory infrastructure and large-scale computational resources.

The Post-doctoral researcher will be working in an Academy of Finland funded project “Macrocyclic receptors for selective anion extraction”.  The project aims to offer pioneering solutions for the selective binding of biologically and technologically important anions from water. The target anions include anti-inflammatory drugs with carboxylate groups, and valuable resources, such as phosphate and precious metals (Au, Pt, Co). The post-doctoral researcher will focus on the synthesis of macrocyclic receptor molecules based on calix[4]pyrrole framework and binding studies with the target anions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate with a PhD degree in chemistry and experience in synthetic organic chemistry. A successful candidate will have strong teamwork and communication skills. Previous experience in supramolecular chemistry, nanochemistry or self-assembled materials is appreciated.

The duties, qualification requirements and language skills of postdoctoral researcher are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. A good command of English is required and a proficiency to teach in English will be considered beneficial.  A PhD degree is required.

The annual salary range will be approximately 38,000 EUR (gross income, including holiday bonus), depending on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.

A trial period of six months will be used when the positions are first filled.
