Yukon University seeks an individual with energy and vision to fill the position of Scientific Director for the newly-created Yukon SPOR SUPPORT Unit for an initial 4-year term, and to develop a research program at Yukon University. This position will be housed at Yukon University, Canada’s first university north of 60°, but will work closely with partners across the territory.

The Scientific Director is responsible for oversight and operation of the Yukon SPOR SUPPORT Unit. The Unit is one of 10 such organizations across Canada, established with funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research to promote the Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR). Under the guidance of an Oversight Committee comprised of funding partners and reporting to YukonU’s Associate Vice President Research, the Scientific Director will lead the implementation of the Unit and all aspects of its operations, including building and leading the team, public engagement activities, developing and administering funding programs and implementing innovative health research initiatives.

The Scientific Director will also develop and implement an applied health research program and lead health-related research activities at Yukon University, including identifying projects, acquiring funding, establishing partnerships, conducting research and disseminating results. The research program will integrate western and Indigenous ways of knowing, develop approaches to knowledge mobilization that promote use of research results in decision-making, and support capacity of Yukon communities and governments to improve population health outcomes.
