We are inviting applications for the position of University Lecturer in Economics.

Economics is part of the degree programme in business studies at the Faculty of Management and Business. Studying economics at Tampere University provides the skills for working in demanding economist positions in the private and public sector, in managerial positions that require expertise in economics, as well as the ability to participate in research both in Finland and abroad. We provide an internationally standardized programme in economics. Our curriculum covers core courses (microeconomics, macroeconomics and econometrics) as well as applied courses in selected fields of economics. Our research programme concentrates on policy relevant applied research, with a current focus on public economics and labour economics.

Job description  

We are seeking a highly motivated teacher and researcher to work as university lecturer in Economics. The university lecturer coordinates the study modules in finance, together with faculty members from other relevant disciplines within the Faculty of Management and Business, teaches courses in financial or monetary economics, as well as other economics courses (e.g. micro- or macroeconomics. The university lecturer conducts independent research that can focus on any field of economics. In addition, the position involves tasks related to curriculum development, and other related tasks.

Requirements

  • an applicable doctoral degree
  • a track record of independent scholarly activity
  • teaching skills required to successfully perform the duties and functions of the position  (10 ECTS university pedagogical training)

The person chosen for the position has a solid track record of high-quality teaching as well as the capacity for high-quality research and publishing activity in economics. Other academic activities and ability for societal interaction are considered a merit. Prior involvement in curriculum development and other responsibilities within the university community are an advantage.

The post requires proficiency in English. The position includes duties wherein proficiency in the Finnish language is useful.

The selection process will involve interviews, candidates may also undergo an aptitude assessment and may be required to give a demonstration of their teaching skills. In the process the top candidates may be evaluated by external experts.

We offer 

The planned starting date is 1 August 2020 or as mutually agreed. A trial period of six months applies to all our new employees.

The salary will be based on both the job requirements and the employee’s personal performance in accordance with the Finnish University Salary System. The position of a University Lecturer is placed on the job demands levels 6-7 (teaching and research staff). A typical starting salary of University Lecturer is around 3700-4500 EUR/month.
