University Lecturer and University Teacher in Mechanical Engineering
University of Turku is looking for one University Lecturer and one University Teacher. The tasks relate to the extension of technical education in the field of Digital production. Both positions are permanent and will begin on June 1, 2020 or upon mutual agreement.
In summer 2019 University of Turku continued its extension to technical sciences taking on fields of materials and mechanical engineering. New study programs in both bachelor and master’s in science in technology begin at fall 2020. The focus areas in teaching in mechanical engineering will be smart systems, digital design and optimization, and digital manufacturing. In the coming fall, the study program in smart systems will be opened.
Tasks related to the university lecturer position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in mechanical engineering, supervising undergraduate and graduate students and doing research in some of the following areas: digital production, modelling processes and operations in manufacturing contexts, digitalization and simulation of processes, industry 4.0, digital twins, data collection, analyses and use.
Tasks related to the university teacher position include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses in mechanical engineering, and supervising undergraduate students in the following areas: strength of materials, solid mechanics, FEM and megatronics.
We are building a diverse and multi-skilled team, therefore for instance experience in industry, entrepreneurship, multidisciplinary collaboration or communication will be counted as a benefit. The appointed persons are expected to participate also in other tasks based on need.
In undergraduate courses the teaching language is Finnish, and in graduate courses English. Fluent written and oral Finnish is therefore required for the university teacher position and a strong applicant should also have a good command of the English language, both oral and written. Solid research track record, experience of education development, and experience of Finnish higher education system are considered an advantage.
The qualification requirements of the positions are stated in the University of Turku Rules of Procedure. An appropriate doctoral degree, and the ability to provide high-quality teaching based on research and to supervise theses are required of persons selected for the post of University lecturer. When assessing the merits of the applicants for the post of university lecturer, scholarly work, practical expertise in the field in question, if needed, teaching experience and teacher training, ability to produce study materials, other teaching merits and a teaching demonstration will be taken into account. A person selected for the post of University teacher is required to have an applicable higher university degree and good teaching skills. When assessing the merits of the applicants, extensive competence in the field in question, teacher training, the ability to produce study materials and the ability to provide multifaceted teaching as well as teaching demonstration will be taken into account.
The salary for a university teacher and university lecturer is based on the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. The salary is at levels 4–7 on the job demands chart, where the task specific salary component is 2535,20–3946,50 euro per month. In addition, a personal work performance component will be paid. The personal performance component is a 6%–50% of the task-specific base salary.
The positions are subject to a six-month trial period.
