The Department of Mathematics & Statistics at McMaster University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. The anticipated start date for this position is July 1, 2022.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline, and a proven record of research excellence in Data Science in Actuarial and Financial Mathematics. The successful candidate will establish their own research program building on the current strengths of the department, supervise graduate students and teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels. In particular, the successful candidate will be part of the instructional team in our award-winning Actuarial and Financial Mathematics undergraduate program and our acclaimed Masters in Financial Mathematics graduate program. A professional actuarial designation or relevant experience are assets for this position, but not a requirement to apply.

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics currently has 38.5 full-time faculty members and a rolling average of approximately 100 graduate students and 15 postdoctoral fellows. In addition to the priority area for this search, related research interests of the department include computational statistics, mathematical biology, and several areas in applied mathematics. A number of researchers in our department are active members of the MacDATA Institute – McMaster’s data science institute – a large university-wide institute founded in 2015 that has a mandate to promote innovative research and training programs on big data and, in general, data science.
