The Department of Paediatrics, Children’s Hospital, London Health Sciences Centre and Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University, is seeking a Clinical Geneticist who is committed to excellence in the tripartite mission of clinical care, education and research, to join the Medical Genetics team.
The Medical Genetics Program of Southwestern Ontario serves a population of about 1.5 million and is a comprehensive genetics centre within an academic teaching hospital, providing general, pediatrics, metabolics, prenatal, and cancer genetics consultations. There is full support from biochemical, molecular, and cytogenetics laboratory services. The metabolics clinic is a centre of excellence for enzyme replacement therapy, and is involved in multicenter research and therapeutic trials for inborn errors of metabolism. The metabolic service has strong focus on family centred care including a provincial scope annual Family Workshop that brings together families to share their experiences and keep up to date on therapeutic advances. The successful candidate will provide consultations and follow-up of patients, together with the metabolics team including geneticists, dietician, social worker, and genetic counsellor, with additional opportunity to provide general genetics consults and develop a subspecialty focus in areas of interest.
Although additional clinical metabolic/biochemical genetics specialty training is preferable, this position is open to any clinical geneticist who is motivated by the opportunity to develop further expertise in metabolics. Qualifications must include an MD or equivalent degree and eligibility for licensing in the Province of Ontario. Subspecialty certification in Medical Genetics from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists, the American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics or equivalent is required. The successful candidate will hold a full-time Limited Term Clinical Academic appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, or a Continuing Clinical Academic appointment at the Associate or Professor level, depending upon qualifications and experience at the time of appointment. We are seeking a candidate with a keen interest in academic medicine and the ability to collaborate effectively with all other members of the health care team. Expectations include provision of inpatient and outpatient clinical care, participation in an on-call roster, engagement in research, and teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Compensation for this position will be primarily composed of an alternative funding plan and academic salary.
