The Opportunity
The Department of Politics & Public Administration in the Faculty of Arts at Ryerson University invites applications for a Limited Term Faculty (LTF) position at the rank of Assistant Professor in areas of Canadian and Environmental Politics. The appointment shall be effective July 1, 2020 for a one-year term, subject to final budgetary approval.
The Department of Politics & Public Administration consists of 26 tenure-stream faculty members. The Department offers undergraduate and graduate programs. Our faculty prides itself on the excellence of its research and on the quality of its teaching. We are interested in candidates that will contribute to our existing research and teaching strengths by bringing innovative and diverse perspectives and experiences to the work.
This position falls under the jurisdiction of the Ryerson Faculty Association (RFA) (www.rfanet.ca).

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will engage only in the teaching and service duties required of faculty members at Ryerson University. The candidate will contribute to undergraduate programs and course offering requirements through teaching, mentoring and supervision of students. The candidate will engage in maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities.
The planned teaching assignments for the position are listed in the below table. Modifications may be required due to enrolment or other factors:

Qualifications
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Politics or a related field by the appointment date and have teaching experience specifically in environmental politics and Canadian politics. In addition, candidates must present evidence of:
- experience as an effective teacher of large undergraduate courses. Evidence of excellence in teaching must be provided through a teaching dossier that outlines the teaching philosophy, teaching accomplishments, including experience with course/curriculum review/development, excellent pedagogical practice, sample syllabi, teaching effectiveness, and peer teaching assessments if available;
- experience supervising Academic Teaching Assistants;
- experience in teaching courses related to the subjects listed in the table above;
- strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate students must be provided;
- commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
- ability to contribute to the life of the Department and the University through collegial service.
Note: Limited Term Faculty appointments at Ryerson University may not exceed a combined total of four years. Applicants with prior Ryerson LTF appointments need to consider this limitation, as it may render them ineligible to apply.
