Post-doctoral Associate in the Marine Microbial Ecology Laboratory

The Marine Microbial Ecology laboratory (Amin Lab) in the Division of Science, New York University Abu Dhabi, seeks to recruit a postdoctoral associate to work on developing cutting-edge metabolomics techniques to study symbiosis between microalgae and bacteria.

The successful applicant will participate in a fascinating project in Prof. Shady Amin’s laboratory on the development of single-cell metabolomics and genomics to characterize the microbiome of microalgae and discover the chemical currencies that drive this important symbiosis in modern oceans. This project is funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation as part of the Symbiosis in Aquatic Systems Program and focuses on developing microfluidic systems to isolate minute volumes from seawater, optimizing mass spectrometry techniques to detect ultra-small volumes and concentrations and apply cutting-edge single-cell genomics to characterize microbes in such small volumes. The candidate will work closely with other laboratory members, who will be working on different aspects of the project. Our laboratory is a multidisciplinary, multicultural environment consisting of PhD level scientists, graduate students and undergraduate students from a wide range of backgrounds.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in chemical oceanography, chemistry, marine biology or related fields. Ideally, the candidate will have a strong background in metabolomics and will have had some experience working with microbes and/or other biological systems. Experience in other omics techniques are also welcome. Excellent experimental and organizational skills are required.

For consideration, applicants need to submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendations, and a one-page research statement on their past and current research and how joining the lab will enrich their future prospects, all in PDF format, to: http://apply.interfolio.com/76586

If you have any questions, please email Prof. Shady Amin at samin@nyu.edu.

The terms of employment are very competitive and include housing and educational subsidies for children. Applications will be accepted immediately and candidates will be considered until the position is filled.
