Tenure-track position as assistant professor of physics at Uppsala University

The position includes research, teaching and administration. Teaching tasks include course responsibility, course administration and supervision of graduate students. The incumbent must also keep abreast of research developments and developments in a larger community that are important for university work. An assistant professor position is intended to qualify the incumbent for a teaching position with higher qualification requirements. 

Appointment period:  The position can be held for a maximum of six years. An assistant professor can apply to be promoted to associate professor. If the assistant professor is deemed suitable and fulfills the promotion criteria established by the Faculty Council, he / she will be promoted and employed as an associate professor. 

Qualifications required : According to the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance, persons qualified for an assistant professor position are persons who have obtained a doctorate or obtained equivalent competence. Applicants who have obtained a doctorate or obtained equivalent competence within five years or less before the end of the application period will be given priority. 

According to the appointment rules of the University of Uppsala, educational expertise is a condition of eligibility for appointment as an assistant professor. To obtain educational expertise, the candidate must have undergone higher education training in connection with the operations of the University, comprising at least five weeks, or be considered to have acquired equivalent competence. If it has not been possible to acquire this qualification before employment, the qualifying training for higher education teachers must be completed during the first two years of employment. 

A general eligibility requirement is that the claimant must have the personal capacity necessary to fully perform the duties of the appointment. 

Documented ability to teach in Swedish and / or English is a requirement, unless special reasons prevail. The holder should be able to teach in Swedish within two years. 

Assessment / classification criteria

Research and educational expertise: The ranking of eligible candidates will be based mainly on research and educational expertise, which will be given equal weight. Research expertise includes the merits of research as well as the candidate’s potential to contribute to the future development of research and teaching. In the evaluation of research expertise, particular importance will be given to the merits of research in the field of physics based on ion beams. Of particular interest is experimental expertise in fundamental studies of ion-solid interaction and in the development of methods in the analysis of materials based on ion beams and the modification of materials in the energy regime from 1 keV to MeV / amu. Experience and interest in the field of ion beam analysis in general and more specifically using ions with energies below 1 MeV are requested from the applicant. The research activities documented at the border between materials research and ion physics are very relevant to the job. Experience in the development and construction of advanced scientific equipment is a merit, as is experience in the development of methods for advanced data analysis. Well documented experience in basic research on low energy ions is considered merit. The research activities documented at the border between materials research and ion physics are very relevant to the job. Experience in the development and construction of advanced scientific equipment is a merit, as is experience in the development of methods for advanced data analysis. Well documented experience in basic research on low energy ions is considered merit. The research activities documented at the border between materials research and ion physics are very relevant to the job. Experience in the development and construction of advanced scientific equipment is a merit, as is experience in the development of methods for advanced data analysis. Well documented experience in basic research on low energy ions is considered merit. 

As much attention will be paid to the evaluation of educational expertise as to the evaluation of research expertise. The pedagogical expertise includes the pedagogical and pedagogical qualifications. When evaluating educational expertise, the quality of teaching should be the main consideration. Consideration should also be given to the breadth of the teaching experience, both in terms of breadth and depth. In addition, consideration must be given to the ability to plan, initiate, direct and develop teaching and teaching, as well as the ability to link research to teaching with respect to research in subject, the didactics of the subject, as well as teaching and learning in higher education. 

Expertise  Administrative Administrative expertise is important for jobs and will be taken into consideration. Administrative expertise also includes entrepreneurship. Administrative expertise is demonstrated, for example, by the ability to plan, organize and prioritize work in an efficient and task-related manner, as well as the ability to assign and observe deadlines. 

Expertise in  management The management expertise is important and will be taken into consideration. Management expertise manifests itself in the ability to lead operations and personnel, make decisions, take responsibility and motivate others, providing them with what is necessary to effectively achieve common goals.  

Expertise in  working together expertise is important and will be taken into consideration. 

Other areas of expertise The  experience of ion accelerator systems from a technical point of view concerning maintenance as well as development is considered a merit. 

All merits must be documented in a way that allows both quality and scope to be assessed. 

By occupying this position, the University aims to appoint the candidate who, after an overall qualitative assessment of his skills and expertise, is judged to have the best potential to carry out and develop the relevant functions and to help move forward the operations. 

In an overall assessment of the applicant’s qualifications, parental leave, part-time work in childcare, union assignments, military service, etc. should be considered work experience.
