Chair Professor of Imaging Physics and Neuroimaging / Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics (two posts) (Ref. 20073105)

The Department of Health Technology and Informatics (HTI) is one of the constituent departments of the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences hosting the disciplines of Medical Laboratory Science and Radiography. The Department offers academic programmes at various levels, from Bachelor’s degree all the way to PhD degree. There are currently about 30 faculty members, with about 20 technical and administrative personnel, plus around 90 research students and research staff, 200 postgraduate students, and 660 undergraduate students in the Department. HTI is a leading academic department in the above professional disciplines with strong commitment to quality teaching and research. Please visit the website at http://www.polyu.edu.hk/hti for more information about the Department.

The University is now inviting applications or nominations for the posts of Chair Professor of Imaging Physics and Neuroimaging / Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics.

Job Functions

The appointees will be required to:

( a )   provide leadership in all aspects of academic activities, including research, teaching and service in the Department;

( b )   provide leadership and build synergy in existing and developing areas of Imaging Physics and Neuroimaging or Bioinformatics and Integrative Genomics, as well as other strategic interdisciplinary areas in the Department;

( c )   provide leadership and actively engage in promoting research collaboration, securing external research grants, enhancing research quality and publication output;

( d )   engage in scholarly research / high-level consultancy;

( e )   facilitate the Department in increasing its international visibility, enhancing its profile and strengthening its global network;

( f )   supervise research students;

( g )   teach and contribute to curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels; and

( h )   contribute to academic administration and management in the University.

Qualifications

Applicants should have:

( a )   a PhD degree in Medical Imaging and Radiation Science, Medical Physics, Bioinformatics, Genomic Science or other closely related fields;

( b )   an international reputation in research and scholarship;

( c )   a strong record in attracting research funding and excellence in research outputs;

( d )   a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and learning;

( e )   a global perspective, proven qualities of academic leadership, and a demonstrated ability of fostering collaboration with faculty members with different cultural and research backgrounds in teaching, intellectual contributions and service activities; and

( f )   ability to bring more visibility, prestige and reputation to the University.

Preference will be given to those with experience in the professional discipline and a recognised professional qualification. Interdisciplinary leadership experience would be considered as a major asset.
