The Department of Slavonic Studies at the University of Greifswald’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking to fill the position of a
Professor (W3) of Slavonic Linguistics
for earliest possible appointment.
The future position holder shall represent the full scope of the subject area ‘Slavonic Linguistics’ in both research and teaching. Applicants are expected to have a research profile that focuses on both Russian and Polish linguistics. Furthermore, in-depth knowledge of Czech and Ukrainian linguistics is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to play an active role in all of the degree courses provided by the Department of Slavonic Studies, the interdisciplinary degree courses with Slavonic components on offer at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, as well as in the conception of Greifswald’s Polonicum. The professor is explicitly encouraged to take part in the interdisciplinary projects that are part of the University’s key field of research ‘Cultures of the Baltic Sea Region’, as well as in the continuing development of the Department’s and the University’s international contacts. Experience in the acquisition of external research funding and academic committees is required. Candidates must be able and willing to teach courses in English and must have gained international experience in an academic context.
Applicants must fulfil the requirements for a university professor according to § 58 of the Landeshochschulgesetz – LHG M-V (State Higher Education Law): a university degree, doctorate, teaching aptitude, and further academic achievements that are usually proven by a junior professorship, habilitation or other equivalent achievements. In accordance with § 61 LHG M-V, the professor appointed will be assigned the status of a civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis) with unlimited tenure; alternatively, if the applicant is not permanently available: limited tenure as a civil servant or public service employee. As a general rule, permanent tenure as a civil servant (Beamtenverhältnis auf Lebenszeit) can only be awarded for the first time to persons who have not yet ended their 50th year of life when they enter employment.
This vacancy is open to all applicants, irrespective of gender. The University would like to increase the proportion of women in areas in which they are underrepresented. Thus, applications from women are particularly welcome and will be treated with priority if they have the same qualifications and as long as there are no clear reasons which make a fellow applicant more suitable. Severely disabled applicants with the same professional and personal qualifications will also be given preference.
Unfortunately, application costs will not be reimbursed by the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
