Research in the field of mines and the environment at UQAT is growing. Professors working in this sector are attached to the Institute for Research in Mines and the Environment (IRME) , made up of a multidisciplinary team of 16 professors working on the entire mineral development process. The research laboratories of the Mineral Technology Research and Service Unit (URSTM), as well as its technical and professional staff, support the deployment of IRME’s multidisciplinary research projects. IRME-URSTM’s organizational model relies on the pooling of human and material resources, allowing it to work and stand out in three sectors of activity: training, research and service.

REGULAR PROFESSOR OR REGULAR PROFESSOR  in the field of Mines and the environment

FUNCTION :
The successful candidate will have to provide teaching mainly to graduate students in order to deepen their theoretical, scientific and technological knowledge in the field of mines and the environment, in particular: the integrated management of mining wastes and their valuation. potential, the mineralogy applied to the mining environment, the geochemical and environmental behavior of mining wastes and storage sites, the treatment and prediction of the quality of mining water, mining geotechnics, restoration and revegetation of mining sites . She must carry out research and be able to ensure the funding of the projects of graduate students under her direction via funds from granting organizations or others.

The successful candidate will actively participate in the development and national and international influence of IRME and IRME UQAT-Polytechnique through the development of an innovative research program in the fields mentioned above. She will be called upon to assume certain administrative tasks at IRME and will have to become part of the faculty team in place.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Hold a doctorate with a specialization in one or more fields associated with mining and the environment, in particular applied mineralogy, environmental geochemistry, management of mine wastes, restoration and revegetation of mine sites or any other relevant field.
  • Have a well-established or promising academic research record, with the aim of initiating or pursuing an independent, innovative and high-level research program.
  • Possess pedagogical skills and aptitudes for the academic supervision of students of 2 nd  and 3 rd cycles.
  • Have a disposition and ability to integrate, cooperate, discuss and work in a team, as well as the ability to get involved in the development of IRME.
  • Possess the ability to integrate into the organizational model of IRME-URSTM, to obtain external research funds from granting agencies and contracts for specialized service work.
  • Mastering French and English both orally and in writing: the application of a person who does not master French may be considered provided that this person undertakes to acquire, within an agreed timeframe, a capacity satisfactory to work in French.

OTHER CRITERIA CONSIDERED AS AN ASSET:

  • Have industrial experience and good knowledge of the Canadian or international mining sector.
  • Have experience of cooperative research in collaboration with industrial partners and a good knowledge of environmental mining issues.
  • Have experience in inter- or multi-disciplinary research.
  • Be a member of a professional order such as the Order of Engineers of Quebec or the Order of Geologists of Quebec.
