Eligibility
  • The Court looks for candidates who have excellent results in their legal studies and who have studied, published and/or worked in public international law.
  • To be eligible, candidates should be 31 years of age or younger at the time the programme begins. This requirement may be waived in special circumstances. In making its selection, the Court seeks candidates of diverse nationalities.
  • The official languages of the Court are English and French, and participants must have excellent reading, writing and oral skills in at least one of these. A working knowledge of the second official language is an asset.
Requirements Candidates will be asked to submit the following application materials to the Court through their universities:

  1. Letter from the university introducing the candidate(s) to the Court.
  2. For universities financially sponsoring their nominees, the introductory letter must also include information regarding the university’s commitment to financially sponsor the candidate.
  3. Application form and summary table, filled in by the candidate.
  4. Two to three letters of reference.
  5. Official academic records of the candidate.
  6. One writing sample of no more than 15 pages and the sample can, for example, be from a previous publication, note or university paper, preferably on a topic of international law.

Coverage Starting with the 2022 intake and selection process, the trust fund will grant fellowship awards to selected candidates who are nationals of developing countries from universities based in developing countries, thereby improving and guaranteeing the geographic and linguistic diversity of the participants in the Programme.
