The Emmy Noether program gives exceptionally qualified early career researchers the opportunity to qualify for the post of professor at a university by leading an independent junior research group for a period of six years.
The program is open to post-docs and junior professors with temporary contracts who are at an early stage in their research career. Holders of an entry-level faculty position with a positive intermediate assessment are no longer part of the target group for this program and are not eligible to submit proposals or receive funding.
Extension of the eligibility period for submitting proposals to the Emmy Noether program
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and associated restrictions on working conditions at universities and research institutes, DFG is extending the period of individual eligibility for submission of proposals under the Emmy Noether program by three months for potential applicants who would not otherwise be eligible until 31 years of age. Eligibility criteria
Early career researchers in all disciplines, normally up to 4 years after the end of the doctorate

An Emmy Noether Independent Junior Research Group can be associated with a Collaborative Research Center with a related topic in the same location. This allows the independent junior research group to be integrated into an excellent research environment. As a full member of CRC, the leader of the independent junior research group shares its centralized funds.
