A full-time research specialist position for a Laboratory Officer in Charge is available at the EMBL Heidelberg to join the Electron Microscopy Team led by Simone Mattei at the newly established EMBL Imaging Centre. The Mattei team specializes on high-throughput and fully automated pipelines to enable large-scale cryo-EM sample preparation and screening.
Your role
You will manage the laboratory: overseeing its operation on a daily basis, working closely together with the group leader in coordinating and supporting PhD students and postdocs in meeting the research goals of the laboratory. You are expected to learn innovative techniques, participate in scientific meetings and implement novel workflows, while you will enjoy providing training and guidance to other group members. You will also benefit from the highly collaborative research environment at the EMBL by pursuing long-term collaborations with other research groups and world-class core facilities.
You have
You should have a PhD in molecular biology, biophysics, biochemistry or in a closely related field. If you don’t have a PhD, but you do have a university or technical school degree, you will be considered depending on your experience and/or potential for development. You should also have a strong background in at least one or more of the following areas:
- heterologous expression and purification of multi-subunit protein complexes,
- purification of RNAs and ribonucleoprotein complexes,
- advanced methods in molecular biology and biochemistry,
- design of protein activity assays, molecular genetic techniques in eukaryotic model organism(s).
