The Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences (FHSE) brings together expertise from the humanities, linguistics, cognitive sciences, social and educational sciences. Your Role…
The doctoral researcher will conduct research under the guidance of a supervisory team, with the aim of studying towards a PhD (cumulative; i.e., based on peer-reviewed publications) in Psychology. Integrated into LUCET’s “ÉpStan Alpha” project, the doctoral researcher will investigate the early development of literacy in Luxembourg’s highly diverse education system. The doctoral researcher will investigate specifically how (institutionalized) early childhood education and precursor competencies impact literacy acquisition in the beginning of fundamental school (Cycle 2) for pupils from different socio-cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
Activities
The doctoral researcher will competently analyze large-scale data emerging from the Luxembourg school monitoring programme “ÉpStan” (Épreuves Standardisées) and other sources. Following general research tasks are included in the responsibilities of the doctoral researcher:
- apply state-of-the-art research techniques and psychometric methods
- conduct systematic literature research
- develop new and adapt existing assessment instruments
- evaluate the psychometric quality of the aforementioned instruments
- (co-)organize and (co-)supervise data collections in fundamental school
- (co-)author peer-reviewed scientific publications and present research outcomes at international conferences
- (co-)author project reports for national stakeholders
- contribute to and support (on-going and future) research projects within LUCET
- perform any other tasks within the framework of the position
What we expect from you…
- Master in psychology
- Good knowledge of quantitative research methods
- Good skills in using statistical software (e.g., R, SPSS, Mplus)
- First research/professional experience (e.g., student research assistant) in the fields of educational/psychological assessment
- Experience with large-scale data is a plus
- (Co-)authored peer-reviewed scientific publications are a plus
- Very good oral and written competences in English and German are mandatory; French and/or Luxembourgish is a plus
- Excellent communication skills
- Motivation to work with young children
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and multicultural team
