Volunteering International Youth Houses, Finland
ACTIVITY DESCRITION
Our project “International Youth Houses” aims to find and maintain a positive international atmosphere in all activities offered by youth affairs in the city of Pori. We want our young people and youth workers to have an open mind and a positive attitude towards other cultures and new international people coming to Pori. We wish our volunteers to lead the way and help us achieve our goals. As a result, our volunteers, young people and youth leaders feel more comfortable and learn from each other during our activities.daily. We hope that our young people will also be inspired and encouraged by the volunteers to travel and discover other countries and cultures. The volunteers will work as assistants to young leaders, participate in the planning and implementation of all the activities that our organization offers to the young people of Pori. We organize mainly activities young open homes, but also of youth work on the web, international and specialized. Within these themes we have group activities , events and camps.
ACCOMMODATION, CATERING AND TRANSPORTATION
The volunteers will share an apartment near the city center, the bedrooms are separate but they will share the kitchen, living room and bathroom together. The volunteer will receive 150 € pocket money + 250 € per month for food. With 400 € / month the volunteer will get by, but the prices in Finland are high! The host organization will help with purchasing plane tickets and organize transportation from Helsinki Airport to Pori. Volunteers will receive an access card for local public transport by bus if needed to get to work and a Finnish mobile phone number with internet connection .
TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY
The on-arrival training for volunteers takes place at the “Youth Center Villa Elba” in Kokkola in October and lasts approximately 6 days. The mid-term training usually takes place in January / February and lasts about 3 days. These trainings are part of the volunteering period for all volunteers. The trainings are great opportunities to meet other volunteers from all over Europe and share with them experiences, thoughts and feelings about your volunteering period. These trainings allow you to make friendships and travel more here in Finland.
PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS
Volunteers should be comfortable and motivated to work with 13-19 year olds.
