About the Academic Unit The School has 45 full-time faculty members. Research strengths are big data analytics, computational geometry, computer security, databases and information systems, distributed computing, graphics, HCI, high-performance computing, machine learning, and networks. The School offers a Bachelor of Computer Science degree and graduate programs at the Master’s and Ph.D. levels. Candidates should commit to and demonstrate excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level. We are particularly looking for candidates with demonstrated ability to teach core computer science program courses in software engineering, database, and web applications. The ability to teach advanced computer science courses is an asset, such as computer networks, computer vision, and functional programming. Industrial experience is also an asset. The Instructor’s principal teaching duty under Article 13.4(iv) consist of:
- The delivery of three (3.0) full credits of courses in each academic year (Summer, Fall, Winter)
- Supervision of B.C.S. Honours projects and B.C.S. Honours theses
- Course preparation and course development
The Instructor’s responsibilities for service include:
- Assist with student recruitment into Bachelor in Computer Science programs
- Contributing to collegial academic governance and processes through service to the University on committees and other forms of administrative duties and responsibilities

The School of Public Policy and Administration invites applications from qualified candidates for a Research Chair in Sustainability Transitions at the rank of Assistant Professor beginning 1 July 2024. The Chair’s focus is the governance of sustainability transitions. The Chair is intended to support the work of an outstanding early career researcher. Candidates are expected to have already established themselves for their expertise and contributions to understanding the governance of sustainability transitions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the Canadian political and policy reality and a demonstrated commitment to engage with government, rightsholders and societal stakeholders to accelerate transformation of key economic sectors to reach net zero and other sustainability goals in Canada.
The Chair is a time-limited position (10-12 years), supported by generous donations from the Ivey Foundation and Rosamond Ivey. With the expiry of the Chair the appointment will revert to a regular faculty position. The Chair includes a 1.0 credit (50%) annual teaching release, a substantial budget for research and knowledge mobilization activities, and funds for student support.

McGill University
The McGill School of Continuing Studies (SCS) invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor (CAS) position in Multilingual Digital Communication. This is a full-time ranked academic, non-tenure-track position with an initial appointment of three (3) years with the possibility of renewal subject to performance. The successful candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of experts to build, develop, teach in, and make other contributions (e.g., incubating new initiatives such as applied research projects or other entrepreneurial ventures) to the School’s new Master’s in Multilingual Digital Communication, a cutting-edge program and the first of its kind in Canada that sits at the crossroads of the communication, language (translation), and tech industries. The McGill School of Continuing Studies The School of Continuing Studies is one of 11 faculties at McGill University, a public institution of advanced learning situated in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The School serves a diverse adult learner population of 8- 10,000+ annually, from pre-collegiate to post-retirement age. Leveraging both face-to-face and online delivery formats, the School offers a combined total of 60+ credit and non-credit programs and courses of varying duration at undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. Position Description: The successful candidate’s primary responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop and teach courses in the program or engage in the equivalent in special projects or applied research projects, as determined in consultation with the Graduate Program Director and the Directors of the Technology and Innovation and/or Global and Strategic Communication academic domains;
- Participate in the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the curriculum and teaching materials targeting early-/midcareer professionals;
- Work with the GPD on the planning and coordination of the Multilingual Communication Technologies Stream, including the three-track capstone experience (internship/practicum/applied research project), and assist with other related academic administrative activities as needed;
- Serve on the relevant workgroups or committees.
- Conduct applied research that contributes to the program and its incubator role;
- Identify and apply for grants and other sources of funding.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate degree (Ph.D. preferred) in Localization Studies, Computational Linguistics, or any other relevant discipline(s)
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas: Multilingual Communication Technologies, Multilingual AI, Machine Learning in Translation, Multilingual AI and Organizing, Computational Intelligence Applied to the Language Industry, Localization Engineering, Translation/Localization Management, UX Localization.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience with course/program development and delivery, preferably at the post-secondary level
- Significant current and relevant industry experience in the relevant field of expertise
- Active applied research agenda in one or more fields related to multilingual digital communication
- Knowledge of French and English. McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing . Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and, at least, one other language.
- Experience in fostering learning by establishing an inclusive and positive classroom dynamic, involving learners in various activities, and managing student participation and group interactions effectively
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Experience in and demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, including accessibility in the context of online environments
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND ATTRIBUTES
- Preference will be given to candidates with an interdisciplinary profile and experience teaching and conducting research with interdisciplinary teams
- Knowledge of Indigenous languages is highly desirable
- Knowledge of East Asian languages is highly desirable
- Prior experience teaching or training adult learners is a plus

The School of Kinesiology invites applications from candidates for a 9.5-month continuing position (August 1 – May 15 annually) at the rank of Instructor I, commencing August 1st, 2024.
Academic Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree in Education or Teaching and Leadership, or a related field, and have experience teaching Physical Education at the elementary and/or secondary levels.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses to provide students with background knowledge that could contribute to a future career in teaching physical education (e.g. schools and health; inclusive physical activity; culture and leadership in physical education) as well as other elective courses and/ or activity labs (e.g., educational gymnastics, dance, games). Membership or leadership experience with organizations such as PHE Canada, and the Teaching Association for Physical and Health and Education (TAPHE) would be an asset.
Candidates who possess professional certifications from the Coaching Association of Canada (CAC), and who have been involved in coaching school or community sport, may have the opportunity to teach in the area of coaching (focusing on the NCCP curriculum).
An overall ability to contribute to the collaborative and dynamic teaching and research culture in the School of Kinesiology is essential. The successful applicant will collaborate with the faculty to broaden the work of the School, particularly with undergraduate students wanting to pursue teaching physical education or coaching as a career. The successful candidate is expected to be an excellent teacher, to contribute to mentoring students, and will also contribute to community engagement and service activities.

The Department of Cellular & Physiological Sciences at the University of British Columbia invites applications for a Research Associate at 100% FTE to join the laboratory of Dr. Timothy Kieffer. The Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences does world-class research aimed at understanding the fundamental workings of cells and organisms in an effort to identify the underlying causes of human diseases. The Department’s research is diverse, with Investigators working in a wide range of the leading invertebrate and vertebrate model systems and using biochemical, molecular genetic, cellular and physiological approaches. The Department has particular strengths in neuroscience, endocrinology, development and cancer. The robust collaborative spirit between the Department’s Investigators drives increasingly multidisciplinary research programs in each laboratory. This includes the incorporation of the latest technologies in molecular biology, genetics, next-generation genomics, proteomics, bioinformatics, and genetically-engineered animal models to complement our expertise in cell biological and physiology. The research in the Department is also strengthened by our use of advanced imaging capabilities that includes EM, super-resolution, 2-photon, live-cell and high-throughput microscopy. Research in the Department of Cellular and Physiological Sciences is providing insight into the fundamental biological processes and pathologies that lie behind many diseases, including cancer, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, heart disease, and stroke, to name just a few. Key tasks of the candidate will include the following: The responsibilities will include conducting research with a primary focus on the development and assessment of a stem cell-based therapy for diabetes. This involves stem cell culture, differentiation, and studying hormone actions using diverse model systems. About the Role The Department of Sociology and Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts at Mount Royal University invites applications for a tenure track position in cultural anthropology, which will commence on July 1, 2024 at the Rank of Assistant Professor, subject to final budgetary approval.
Applicants will have a doctoral degree in cultural anthropology. Areas of research expertise are open but the candidate should add to and complement existing strengths in our department. Preference will be given to candidates who bring a critical perspective on issues of public interest and policy, which may include but are not limited to climate change and environment, reconciliation, critiques of settler-colonialism, design anthropology, museum studies, cultural heritage, and human rights, which may include public and/or applied anthropology. The successful applicant will be expected to teach introductory, core, and advanced-level courses including the History of Anthropology. They will also have the opportunity to develop new courses in their field. A commitment to decolonial and anti-racist perspectives in the curriculum is a priority.
Our combined Sociology and Anthropology department hosts faculty who pursue diverse research and teaching interests but work collaboratively to ensure the success of both disciplines. In our department, we emphasize experiential learning, including international field schools, local field trips, as well as ethnographic and laboratory methods.
New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/ scholarship/ service pattern (TSS) focuses on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/ service pattern (TS) focuses on teaching and service only.
Candidates will also be encouraged to teach courses in General Education in Cluster Three: Community and Society. The Department of Earth Sciences is seeking a candidate for the Robert W. Hodder Chair in Economic Geology, in honour of the late Professor Robert W. Hodder. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (Probationary (tenure-track)), Associate Professor (Probationary (tenure-track) or with Tenure), or Full Professor with Tenure depending on qualifications and experience. The salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience.
The successful candidate must have a PhD in the Earth Sciences and bring skills and experiences complementary to the Department. The candidate will have an established record of generating ore deposit research and funding, and a history of interaction with the mineral resource sector. The candidate's research should emphasize field work and relating geoscience observations to mineral systems models. Industry collaborative research should be complemented by excellent communication skills and an enthusiasm for teaching and enhancing student education. Candidates with a research focus in ore deposit geology and skill sets that pertain to critical minerals as defined by The Canadian Critical Minerals Strategy and/or precious metals will be given priority.
Research in the Department of Earth Sciences at Western falls into the broad themes of Earth and Planetary Systems; Resource Geoscience; Tectonic Processes and Crustal Dynamics; and Earth Evolution: Life, Climate and Environment. The successful candidate will be expected to establish and maintain a vigorous, independently funded research program in Economic Geology, and to collaborate with other faculty members in one or more of our research themes.
