We invite applications for two full-time, five-year term (non-tenure track) librarian positions with the University Library. These positions do not include a research component, but are in scope of the University of Saskatchewan Faculty Association.

One position will provide comprehensive liaison services to the College of Nursing, as well as instruction and research support to the biomedical sciences departments of the College of Medicine. The other position will provide comprehensive liaison services to the College of Dentistry, School of Public Health, and the department of Community Health and Epidemiology within the College of Medicine.

Our health sciences librarians support the disciplines of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, nutrition, dentistry, kinesiology, public health, and rehabilitation sciences. We are seeking dynamic, innovative, and flexible individuals to work collaboratively throughout the library, and to contribute to library-wide projects and priorities.

The successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Providing high-quality liaison services that support faculty teaching and research, and student learning and success, including:
    • designing and delivering information literacy instruction, both in-person and online
    • developing high-quality collections of digital and print resources in assigned disciplinary areas
    • providing information services, including research consultations
  • Building collaborative relationships with stakeholder groups to advance learning and research
  • Working as a member of one of the library’s four divisions (Learning and Curriculum Support Division, Research Support Services Division, Collections and Discovery Division, and University Archives and Special Collections Division) to advance our Library Strategic Framework.

Qualifications An ALA-accredited Master of Library and Information Science degree or international equivalent is required for this appointment. Experience in the health sciences is an asset, but not necessary.

Salary bands for the 2022-2023 academic year are as follows:

  • Assistant Librarian: $83,150 to $99,945

It is anticipated that these positions will be filled at the assistant or associate ranks.

Brandon University is currently accepting applications for the position of Sexual Violence Education and Prevention Coordinator.

The Sexual Violence Education and Prevention Coordinator (SVEPC) is the central point of contact for all reports of sexual violence in all its forms including, but not limited to, sexual assault, dating and intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual harassment at Brandon University.  The SVEPC provides trauma-informed and survivor-centric support, advice, information, and advocacy to survivors of sexual assault.  The role includes providing information on available options and resources so survivors can make informed decisions about how to proceed, and can be properly supported, through a complex process.  The SVEPC is also responsible for developing educational and training materials, educational and training processes, and a schedule of regular workshops and training for students, staff, and faculty members, to create a culture of proactive and preventative engagement. These responsibilities include working closely with the Athletics Department to help develop, implement, and oversee a Safe Sport program for Brandon University.

The Sexual Violence Education and Prevention Coordinator provides leadership in ensuring that survivors of sexual assault receive appropriate and responsive care. The SVEPC reports directly to, and provides advice and recommendations to, the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).  The SVEPC is responsible for data collection, record-keeping, and reporting to the Provost on matters which fall under their area of responsibility.  Working closely with the Sexual Assault Advisory Group, the SVEPC provides consultation, expertise, and guidance on the continued updating and implementation of the Brandon University Sexualized Violence Policy, and other relevant policies and practices. The SVEPC also works in close collaboration with internal constituencies, community partners, student counsellors, the accessibility office, and university leadership to create a healthy and inspiring learning environment where violence in any form is not tolerated.

Qualifications:

  • Formal Education and Designations (level and nature): Bachelor’s degree or equivalent credential is required in a relevant discipline including, but not limited to, Social Work, Law, Social Science, Psychology, or Counselling.  An advanced degree, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience, is preferred.
  • Training and/or experience as a victim advocate and/or in sexual assault investigation is required. Knowledge of the physical, physiological, psychological, medical and legal contexts of sexual assault and trauma, and supporting survivors, is required.

Required Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years' relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting initial stages of sexual assault triage. Experience with complete investigations is an asset.
  • Cultural sensitivity and a trauma-informed approached. Experience with Indigenous populations and other vulnerable populations is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention and referral.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing educational programming and resources for targeted audiences with intended learning outcomes.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Manitoba Human Rights Code, The Mental Health Act, the Sexual Violence Awareness and Prevention Act, FIPPA, and PHIA, as well as sexual assault advocacy, case management, victim trauma, and the psychological impacts of sexual assault on survivors.
  • The SVEPC must be able to work well within overlapping policy frameworks.
  • Ability to work with multi-interdisciplinary team members, and strong team-building skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of and demonstrated skills in providing support using survivor-centred, trauma-informed strategies.
  • Knowledge of issues and concerns of equity deserving groups; contextual understanding of the dynamics of prejudice, discrimination, and intersectionality.
  • Knowledge of best practices in sexual violence investigation, policy and protocols, in order to support survivors through investigative processes.
  • Exceptional listening, communication, and interpersonal skills are essential, as the SVEPC must be able to build trusting relationships with survivors, community partners, medical and legal systems, internal supports, etc.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a keen ability to engage, and build rapport, with various stakeholders and members of the University community.
  • Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement and sensitivity working with complex confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications including word processing, spreadsheet, database and presentation software applications.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required.

The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Health at York University invites highly qualified applicants for an Assistant Professor position in Clinical or Clinical Developmental Psychology. This is a tenure-track appointment to the Professorial Stream to commence July 1, 2024.

Recognizing the underrepresentation of Black faculty, this position is open only to qualified individuals who identify as Black peoples of African Descent (e.g., Africans and African heritage people from the Caribbean, Americas, Europe). Degree: PhD or closely related degree (e.g., PsyD or EdD) from accredited clinical programs (CPA/APA) is required. Scholarship:

  • A coherent and well-articulated program of research and professional practice and specialization in Clinical Psychology doing research with adults, youth, or children.

Located at Queen’s University in Kingston, the Teaching and Outreach Archivist/Librarian is a Continuing track position reporting to the University Archivist & Associate University Librarian in the Queen’s University Library’s Archives and Special Collections division. The position collaborates closely across the division with the Curator for Rare Books and Special Collections and the Public Services/ Private Records Archivist to share responsibilities for liaison with faculty, campus and community outreach, and reference and teaching.

The incumbent is a specialist in archives and special collections as their subject matter to teach about the theory, practice, and material culture of archives, rare books, and special collections. The Teaching and Outreach Archivist/Librarian works with a focus on teaching and outreach opportunities across the library system and in the broader community that promotes the use of archives and special collections. The position undertakes course-based instruction, attends regular reference shifts, and answers reference requests from both units; leads or co-leads both community based and faculty and student focused promotion and outreach services and projects, such as the Archives’ From the Page crowd- sourced transcription service, programmed and pop-up digital and physical exhibitions, and projects for for-credit (HIST 212, 501/502), paid, or volunteer students and community members. This position may also attend, when appropriate, Library Advisory Committees; inform Cyclical Program Reviews; attend other library meetings; and work with liaison librarians, archivists, and staff to promote collaboration and communication in the context of the library’s organizational design and vision of one library with a shared allegiance to common goals and a ‘learning organization’ philosophy of continuous staff development, engagement, teamwork, and communication.

The University Archives comprises over 10 km of unique print records, two million photographs, tens of thousands of architectural plans and drawings, and thousands of sound recordings and moving images. It is unique in Canada in that it also serves as municipal and regional archives for the City of Kingston and County of Frontenac. It also serves as the repository for the Kingston General Hospital. W. D. Jordan Rare Books and Special Collections is home to a variety of collections from the earliest printed books to the personal libraries of significant authors such as John Buchan and Robertson Davies. At the heart of Rare Books and Special Collections is the extensive Edith and Lorne Pierce Collection of Canadiana—a repository of Canadian Studies materials that dates from Canada’s earliest histories and literature, as well as the more recent Schulich-Woolf Rare Book Collection, which is focused on history and culture as expressed through early modern printing.

The regionally, nationally, and internationally significant print, photographic, audio-visual, and digital resources within Archives and Special Collections means that the position plays a key role in supporting Queen’s University faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students in addition to external scholars and community users.

As part of the broader University of Calgary transdisciplinary recruitment program, 20 academic positions have been created to build capacity and provide leadership in support of the Ahead of Tomorrow Strategic plan. These scholars see challenges as opportunities that spark our singular mission – to dare to imagine ahead of tomorrow.

We live in an ever-changing educational landscape, influenced by emerging digital technologies, as evidenced by the necessity to consider alternative learning during the pandemic. The post pandemic world requires educators to be responsive to the changing expectations of the nature of student learning experiences with greater emphasis on digital learning environments. Pedagogical changes need to occur to support the design and implementation of robust learning.

The need to think about the creative and disruptive impacts of learning and assessment have significant implications for equity, diversity, and inclusion within a digital age.  On the one hand, students from equity deserving groups may be disproportionately targeted for academic misconduct related to the inappropriate use of emerging technologies.  On the other, the creative possibilities for increased access as a learning support for students with neurodevelopmental disabilities suggests the potential for creative possibilities for how to embed appropriate uses of AI in formal and informal learning environments.

This position will draw together thought leaders and scholars to optimize impact by applying technologies across all disciplines in support of robust student learning. Additionally, this position will lead in examining how to scale emerging immersive technologies beyond small-scale labs toward education systems and unstructured learning environments.

The appointments will commence July 1, 2024, or at a mutually agreeable date.

We are seeking a scholar who will build a collaborative, critical mass, and provide leadership within the Werklund School and University of Calgary more broadly and position the institution both as a national and global leader in the ethical use of emerging technologies in pedagogy and assessment.

We are seeking a scholar with an active research program who demonstrates leadership in immersive learning with digital technologies (e.g., AR/VR) and will bring together knowledge, pedagogies, and methodologies in sciences, technology, and education. The successful candidate will interconnect with other faculties given the transdisciplinary focus of the research and will work collaboratively with colleagues to develop and conduct research that is relevant, impactful, and innovative. Their research program may involve conducting research on 1) Investigating the impact of student learning in immersive technology learning environments and/or the use of AI in K-12 schools and post-secondary; 2) designing and implementing immersive learning within classroom settings that are beyond VR labs or in small research contexts; and 3) examining the sustainability of immersive learning and/or AI in K-25 educational contexts.

In addition to maintaining an active funded research program, the successful candidate will be expected to supervise graduate and/or undergraduate students, teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in their areas of specialization and demonstrate leadership in service, collaboration, and mentorship within the University and the community.  As well, the successful candidate will be expected to engage actively with K-12 communities.

The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor (Teaching and Research) level must demonstrate evidence of a track record of publications in high quality journals, securing external research funding, and effectiveness in teaching at the university level.

The School of Health and Exercise Sciences in the Faculty of Health and Social Development invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Human Exercise Metabolism. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding scholar, with a strong record of research impact and demonstrated ability to attract external funding. The candidate will be expected to complement, innovate, and accelerate interdisciplinary research in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences and to build a leading internationally recognized laboratory. We particularly welcome applicants whose research program focuses on metabolic aspects of exercise (or physical activity) related to obesity, cardiometabolic health, and/or environmental physiology/resiliency. The anticipated start date of this position is July 1, 2024.

The successful applicant will be an emerging leader in exercise metabolism with demonstrated ability to conduct basic and applied human experimental studies. The ability to integrate metabolic measurements at the whole body, cell/tissue, and molecular level would be an asset. Priority will be given to candidates conducting translational and interdisciplinary human research with expertise in one or more of the following areas: i) the effects of exercise on key metabolic tissues (e.g., muscle, adipose, liver) involved in the pathogenesis of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and related cardiometabolic disorders; ii) role of mitochondrial metabolism in exercise, health, disease, and environmental stress; iii) immunometabolism and the cell/tissue-specific interactions between exercise, metabolism, inflammation, and health; and/or iv) development, testing, and optimization of novel exercise or lifestyle therapies for preventing and treating metabolic disease by targeting tissue-specific metabolic defects. It is also expected that the ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience and the prerequisite skills/ability to independently establish human metabolic research techniques (e.g., metabolic testing, muscle or adipose biopsies, mitochondrial respiration, stable isotope tracers, metabolomics).

The School of Social Work in Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health invites applications for a five-year limited term appointment as an Assistant Professor (Research) in the area of ‘social and psychological resilience’ to be held in the School of Social Work. The appointment will be a 5-year limited term position at the rank of Assistant Professor with the position to begin November 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Dalhousie University is comprised of 6,000 faculty and staff amongst its 13 faculties. Current enrollment is 18,500 graduate and undergraduate students. As part of Canada’s U15 research-intensive group, Dalhousie is an influential driver of the region’s intellectual, social, and economic development. The Faculty of Health is one of the largest faculties at Dalhousie, comprised of eight schools, one college and one program, more than 200 faculty members, 80 staff members, and over 3,000 students.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated potential and capacity to develop and lead a recognized research program within the scope of work currently being done by the Resilience Research Centre (RRC-www.resilienceresearch.org) and that aligns with our strategic directions within the Faculty of Health and promotes collaboration with external partners in this area.

The Faculty of Health has a core group of Faculty in the area of Health Equity and Resilience. The successful candidate will be expected to initiate and sustain a strong program of research related to the study of child and youth resilience and mental health among populations who experience positive developmental outcomes despite exposure to significant adversity. While the position requires the candidate to initiate an innovative and sustainable program of research with the support and mentorship of the RRC’s Director, Dr. Michael Ungar, some teaching will also be required. Specifically, the successful candidate will be affiliated with the Resilience Research Centre, which studies resilience across cultures and contexts, emphasizing a systemic understanding of the individual and collective factors and processes that protect against risk and promote recovery, adaptation, and transformation. A major focus of the Centre is the multisystemic nature of resilience, with projects that cover a wide range of focal areas, including biological markers of resilience as related to child and youth mental health (e.g., epigenetic, neurological and hormonal factors related to coping with stress), children’s psychological resilience (e.g., patterns of service use and adaptation among child refugees), social resilience of children, youth and families (e.g., individual and family recovery after community violence), and ecological resilience (e.g., the capacity of ecological and human systems to interact successfully when stressed). The successful candidate will have a completed PhD (in a relevant field), a background in innovative and original resilience research, and the capacity to obtain external research funding. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include engaging in innovative externally funded research that represents excellence in this area and contributing to building collaborative research partnerships with knowledge-user communities, within and across Dalhousie’s faculties and external communities.

The Department of East Asian Studies of the University of Alberta is seeking to hire a full-time Teaching Professor at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Lecturer, to teach all levels of Mandarin Chinese. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2024.

Required Qualifications:

  • Native or near-native proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English
  • A Master's or Doctorate degree in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, or some other field related to the study of the Chinese language, or to Chinese-language pedagogy.
  • Minimum of three years' experience teaching Mandarin at the post-secondary level in Canada, or in the United States or another Anglophone nation. This experience must include teaching at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels.
  • Minimum of one year experience managing a study-abroad program, or equivalent project-based management experience including delivery of all aspects of budgeting, fund raising, policy and legal compliance, and risk management.
  • A citizenship status that permits travel to both mainland China and Taiwan. It is not required to have work eligibility in mainland China or Taiwan.

In addition to the above requirements, the below are qualifications that will be considered an asset

  • Strong teamwork within a cohort of language instructors
  • Excellence in design and development of instructional materials
  • Record of welcoming a diverse student body into the Chinese language classroom, and of managing a classroom with students of different backgrounds and proficiency levels
  • Pedagogical innovation such as task-based learning, etc.

The Department The Department of East Asian Studies was founded in 1982, and is one of the few departments of its kind in Canada that offers full four years in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean languages, along with courses in the histories, cultures, and societies of East Asia. Our diverse faculty includes scholars working in the Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine Arts, and we are the only area studies department at any university in the province of Alberta. Last year, our Chinese language program won the Faculty of Arts prize for Best Teaching Unit. The successful applicant will work closely with the director of the Chinese language program, Dr. Kuo-Chan Sun, one of Canada's leading experts in Mandarin-language education.

At least two high schools, Amiskwaciy Academy and Victoria School of the Arts offer Cree and Blackfoot as a high school credit and has started an Indigenous Ways of Knowing program in junior high school.

The School of Nursing, the Faculty of Human and Social Development (HSD), and the University of Victoria strive to provide a welcoming, supportive environment for Indigenous students and faculty. The School of Nursing is a leader in undergraduate and graduate nursing education and research.
