The Department of Computer Science and the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Regina invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position in Data Science at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, starting on July 1, 2024. The rank and salary will be commensurate with the successful applicant’s qualifications and experience.
This position is externally funded by Saskatchewan Government Insurance (SGI) for a ten-year period in support of a newly developed B.Sc. in Data Science program jointly delivered by the Departments of Computer Science and Mathematics & Statistics. After this initial period, the Faculty of Science will assume full budgetary responsibility for the position.
The position is open to candidates from all research fields in Data Science, with a preference for those whose research aligns with the existing strengths of departments. Appointment to this position is contingent upon the completion of a Ph.D. degree in Actuarial Science, Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, or Statistics. The home department of the successful candidate will be either the Department of Computer Science or the Department of Mathematics & Statistics, based on the candidate’s expertise.

The successful candidate is expected to:
- Develop and lead an independent research program in Data Science and related fields.
- Attract and maintain external funding through Tri-council grants and industry partnerships.
- Supervise undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows.
- Teach undergraduate courses in support of the Bachelor of Science in Data Science program.
- Teach graduate courses in their area of expertise.
- Participate in administrative duties and service to the community.
- Establish and promote collaborative relationships and working partnerships with Data Science partners at the provincial and national levels.
All candidates will be assessed based on:
- Research excellence and potential to develop an independent and externally funded research program.
- Teaching ability and potential to develop teaching excellence.
- Ability to supervise both undergraduate and graduate students.
- Commitment to departmental and university service work.
- Industry experience or exposure will be considered a significant asset.
