The Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Scripps Research in La Jolla, CA, is seeking outstanding applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor position. We invite applications from investigators studying fundamental cellular and molecular processes to enhance our understanding of human health and disease.
Molecular and Cellular Biology at Scripps Research addresses the challenge of unravelling complex biology. We seek to understand how intercellular and intracellular signals interact with regulatory circuitry to modulate functions, both spatially and temporally. Using the tools of cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics, proteomics, high resolution imaging, computation, and chemical biology, these basic problems can be studied by the integrative power of empiricism and inductive logic, and through system analyses, to achieve a comprehensive understanding of biological systems. We are inspired by the capacity of molecular and cellular biology to define biological mechanisms associated with both health and important human diseases. Key faculty strengths exist in regulation of gene expression, endomembrane design and flow, protein folding, metabolism, systems biology of aging, gene stability maintenance, immune biology, and the discovery of new chemical tools to probe biological function. Together, we take advantage of the highly collaborative environment of our Department and the broad depth of research at Scripps Research to break through the limits of today’s scientific horizons.
Scripps Research is home to state-of-the-art facilities for proteomics, metabolomics, next-generation sequencing, microscopy, flow cytometry, structural biology, drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics, medicinal chemistry, rodent behavior, and ultra-high-throughput small molecule screening for chemical probe discovery.

Scripps Research — one of the world’s largest, private, non-profit research organizations — is at the forefront of basic biomedical science, with faculty undertaking research that seeks to comprehend the most fundamental processes of life. Over the last decades, the Institute has established its core strengths in biomedical research at the interfaces between chemical and biological sciences. Nature Index has ranked Scripps Research second in the world and first in the United States among stand-alone scientific institutes for biomedical research, based on discoveries by the Institute’s researchers published in leading scientific journals.
Scripps has a vibrant Ph.D. program that is ranked in the top 10 in chemical and biological sciences and boasts a collegial and collaborative environment, where faculty, students and postdoctoral fellows freely interact across disciplines to form synergy in emerging areas of research.
Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D., PharmD., M.D., D.V.M., or equivalent in a relevant discipline, and an outstanding record of research that demonstrates originality in addressing significant questions. We are especially interested in candidates whose research programs envision a multidisciplinary perspective and cutting-edge experimental approaches. Successful candidates will be expected to establish an active research group, be an interactive member of the faculty, and participate in interdisciplinary research and training.
Application Instructions
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, their Curriculum Vitae, three professional references, a current research statement, future research plans and a diversity statement.
Candidates are also requested to enclose a statement describing how their program can uniquely benefit from resources and expertise available at Scripps Research.
Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis by a diverse Search Committee. The first round of review will be concluded on applications submitted prior to November 01, 2023. Applications will continue to be accepted until the positions are filled or by the close of May 2025. Anticipated start date is Fall 2024.
