Job Description: A Post-Doctoral Associate position is available immediately for highly ambitious, independent, and motivated candidates in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Florida. The position will require collaboration with other faculty, scientists, and health professionals in the State Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (Bronson Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (BADDL)), the University of Florida Veterinary Teaching Hospital Diagnostic Laboratories (UF-CVM), and the Bureau of Public Health Laboratories in the state of Florida on the design, coordination, and implementation of epidemiological investigations on zoonotic agents of one health interest research for a federal and state-funded project for two years starting immediately. A high level of self-motivation and participation in a collaborative team is required.

The Post-Doctoral Associate shall be based 80% of the time at Bronson Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, Kissimmee, FL

Job duties include but are not limited to:
(i) improving epidemiological investigation capabilities in Florida to detect, track, and report emerging threats related to animal and human health (i.e., One Health) on time through developing a database for veterinary and public health laboratory use that will include epidemiological data, diagnostic laboratory findings, genomic data, and bioinformatic analyses of zoonotic pathogens. Case material submitted at BADDL/UF-CVM labs may be used for case-based education and trend analysis.
(ii) increase collaborations between animal health and public health stakeholders in Florida through quarterly meetings to provide updates and joint training programs for veterinary and public health workforce on pathogen detection and tracking, reporting guidelines, and newly developed database use, and
(iii) workforce development and training of scientists to build an adequate cadre of skilled One Health professionals to prepare the state to respond existing and emerging One Health threats efficiently and effectively.

The Post-Doctoral Associate will also be trained to obtain ACVPM board eligibility and encouraged to take the ACVPM board exam.

Expected Salary: $58,000 – $59,740
Minimum Requirements: Requires a DVM (or equivalent) plus Ph.D. in microbiology or molecular biology or a related discipline.
Preferred Qualifications: Broad and strong understanding of molecular diagnostic tools, including bioinformatics analysis, and demonstrated ability to present and publish scientific data and train scientists.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
