Job Description

The Department of Economics at the University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Scientist position in the area of natural resource economics. The successful candidate will take part in an interdisciplinary research project centered on divergence and/or convergence of human perceived and instrumented climate change induced impacts. The candidate will contribute to a multi-state research project funded by National Science Foundation RII Track-2 award Where We Live: Local and Place Based Adaptation to Climate Change in Underserved Rural Communities and collaborate with experts in social and environmental sciences. The ideal candidate would have experience in working with large-scale geospatial data and econometric modeling. Familiarity with hydrometeorological fields and processes is a plus. We are particularly interested in candidates with experience working on problems unique to irrigated agricultural water users and other stakeholders in rural, water scarce regions of the western United States.

The work will include three components:
1) Literature search and synthesis to describe existing knowledge and identification of knowledge gaps regarding climate change impacts and adaptation in arid rural water scarce regions.
2) Economic modeling and econometric analysis using existing large gridded geospatial data sets to address the identified knowledge gaps such as developing a socioecological systems framework for modeling irrigated agricultural users and other stakeholders’ decisions to adapt to increasingly variable water supply.
3) Co-production of new knowledge, in partnership with an interdisciplinary science team and rural community stakeholders, designed specifically to assess and address the gap between perceived and instrumented climate change induced impacts on water supply.

The position is available immediately.
