About the Role

This is a fixed term position for a Research Fellow in Geography to join the School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences on an exciting research project funded by the Australian Research Council via a Discovery Project grant.

You will be a key member in the design, conduct, analysis and dissemination of qualitative social research examining young people’s experience of social change in India.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Contributing significantly towards the research effort of the team and developing your research expertise with an increasing degree of autonomy
• Preparation of research proposal submissions to internal or external funding bodies as relevant
• Conducting internationally competitive research, resulting in publications in high impact journals
• Participating in research seminars and conferences to disseminate research findings
• Contributing to teaching, training, scientific mentoring and supervision of students

Who We Are Looking For

You will have substantial experience conducting qualitative research with young people in India.  A working knowledge of Hindi or other Indian language relevant to the research will be highly regarded.  You will possess excellent communication skills, both in written and verbal forms, and strong organisational skills in order to meet deadlines and bring projects to a timely completion.

You will also have:

• Completed a PhD in anthropology, geography or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in conducting qualitative social research and a sound publication record in relevant areas
• Ability to engage with relevant professional and industry bodies and stakeholders to foster collaborative partnerships

The School of Geography, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences was formally established in 2021, following the merger of the Schools of Geography and Earth Sciences. The new School synergises discipline strengths in geography, atmospheric science and geoscience. The School offers undergraduate and graduate research programs in these core discipline areas, and in the multi-disciplinary fields of Climate Change, Environmental Science and Archaeological Science.

The research within the School is built upon extensive expertise in geography, geoscience and atmospheric science, ranging from the social sciences through to the quantitative physical sciences.
