The Faculty of Social Sciences comprises nine departments, schools and institutes, which offer undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral programs in both English and French. With its 10,000 students, 260 full-time professors, and wide array of programs, the Faculty of Social Sciences plays a key role at the heart of the University of Ottawa. Its graduate students are supervised by excellent researchers and undertake cutting-edge research in the Faculty’s Master’s and Ph.D. programs. The School of Psychology promotes research and training excellence. Our professors lead major laboratories, research centres, and institutes. The School of Psychology comprises a strong undergraduate program and two outstanding doctoral programs: Experimental Psychology and Clinical Psychology. All programs are offered in French and/or English. Finally, the School is passionate about equity, diversity, and inclusion. The School of Psychology at the University of Ottawa is accepting applications for one (1) tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on pedagogical best practices in the teaching and training of future clinicians. For this position, we are looking for a creative individual who will develop innovative pedagogical approaches in teaching and clinical training and who wishes to play a leading role in the development of our clinical psychology program. Thus, we are seeking candidates with clear expertise in the training and teaching of clinical psychology, particularly in emerging areas of best clinical training practices (e.g., EDI-focused training, effectiveness research, development and evaluation of social and health – particularly mental health – programs and policies). The candidate will actively contribute to maintaining our high training standards. Candidates should demonstrate the capacity to initiate their own research program on improving training and/or teaching practices in clinical psychology. Candidates must be eligible to register with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Candidates with demonstrated clinical qualifications and expertise with children and families, and/or expertise in community-clinical psychology, particularly in program development and evaluation, will be prioritized. Clinical experience with populations who have been marginalized is preferred.

Duties

  • Conduct research and publishing activities.
  • Teach at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Supervise Ph.D. candidates, including Black, Indigenous, and other students of Colour; LGBTQ2S+ students, students with disabilities, and students from other marginalized groups.
  • Participate in the University’s academic and administrative activities.
  • Carry out other activities as specified in the collective agreement.
  • Clinical supervision of graduate students with a focus on children and families and/or community-clinical psychology, particularly program development and evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Completed Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology.
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and training.
  • Strong publication and research track record in the field.
  • Demonstrated experience with people from racialized and other marginalized groups as research participants and trainees.
  • Candidates must be registered with or eligible to register with the College of Psychologists of Ontario.
  • Bilingualism – Candidates MUST be able to teach and train in both official languages (French and English) at time of hire.

Terms and salary

Tenure-track position. Assistant Professor salary scale starts at $89,622. Tenure-track positions are subject to budgetary approval.
