The recently founded Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health, located on the University of Bayreuth’s new campus in Kulmbach is currently seeking to appoint a
Full Professor of Nutritional Physiology
at salary grade W3 to commence as soon as possible. This is a permanent civil service position.
We invite applications from candidates with an excellent record in research and teaching. This should be evidenced by publications in high-ranking international journals, successful acquisition of external funding, and a clearly recognizable scientific profile. The professorship should conduct internationally competitive research aimed at answering important nutritional science questions. In cooperation with other research groups in the faculty (e.g. Biochemistry of Nutrition, Molecular Exercise Physiology, Digital Health, Food Metabolome, Bioanalytical Sciences and Food Analysis, Biochemistry of Microorganisms, Crop Plant Genetics), the professorship will contribute to gaining mechanistic insights into the relationships between nutrition and health. The elucidation of the physiological effects of food components should, with the inclusion of high-performance analytics, which will be established in the Metabolomics / Mass Spectrometry Key Lab, provide essential insights into the advantages and disadvantages of certain diets. In addition, the focus of the research should offer links to the faculty’s research groups in economic, legal and social sciences (e.g. Food Law, Public Health Nutrition, Nutritional Sociology, Law and Economics of Health and Risk Regulation).
The Faculty of Life Sciences in Kulmbach is expected to promote a wide range of initiatives in the region and encourage change in terms of health promotion in the most diverse areas of society. The candidate is expected to play an active role in shaping the Faculty of Life Sciences: Food, Nutrition and Health. This includes the establishment and further development of the faculty’s interdisciplinary bachelor’s and master’s programmes. The ability to teach in English is a prerequisite for employment, as essential parts of the faculty’s teaching programme are offered in English; international applicants must be willing and able to teach in German as well, at least in the medium term.
